| 'Libya eyes advanced Russian weapons' Mon, 20 Oct 2008 10:07:45 GMT Su-30 fighter planes | The Libyan president is to discuss the purchase of advanced Russian weaponry in his upcoming visit to Moscow, Russian foreign ministry sources say.
The Russian business daily Vedomosti on Monday quoted unnamed sources from foreign ministry and the state technology agency as saying that the country would sell Su-30 fighter planes and advanced T-90 battle tanks to Libya.
Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi will visit Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on October 31.
Russia could also sell Libya Tor-M2E air missile defense systems and spare parts for Russian-made weapons it already possesses, according to the report.
The paper also said the deal to supply arms to Libya worth more than 2 billion dollars.
Gaddafi last visited Russia in 1985 before the breakup of the Soviet Union. Relations between Libya and Russia have warmed since current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visited Libya in April 2008.
