[vinnomot] Talk on Zen Cart held (Sorry for cross posting)

Talk on Zen Cart held

The monthly talk of BdOSN for the month of July 2008 held at FREPD auditorium on 26th July 2008. Mr Suhreed Sarker presented the keynote talk on the topic e-commerce site development using Zen card. ( Zen Cart) an open source shopping cert software is now gaining popularity among the e-commerce site developer. Mr Sarker explained that the popularity was because of its user friendly environment and new features. Some of the features included but not limited to multiple customer modes, unlimited category depth , multiple sales and discounts , XHTML template system , multiple shipping options , multiple payment options, provision for gift voucher etc. Besides the programme allowed to write and uses third party plug-ins in a comfortable manner. He showed the different aspect of the programme to the audience.

However, in a response to a question Mr Sarker said that the programme is yet to incorporate the inventory module for a large shop. There may be some modules in future. It was also learned that in Bangladesh some of the free lance software developer are using Zen Cart for their development activities. However, Mr Suhreed Sarker noticed that the local e-commerce sites were developed from the scratch and thus seriously lacks some important features. The others also expressed that writing different modules for zen cart would provide good opportunity for our programmer to develop themselves. The programme was conducted by the general secretary of BdOSN.

[vinnomot] Local poll: CTG has failed, Why CTG has wasted two years ?

[vinnomot] Circus of SAARC

Circus of SAARC
  -Biplab Pal, 8/6/2008
    Washington DC

South Asian Association of regional co-operation (SAARC) just ended its summit. Endless scintillating flashes on our Prime ministers, resolution against terrorism, resolve  for counter terrorism, cornering of Pakistan are all but gallant achievement of regional leaders while India, Afghanistan and Pakistan continue to bleed profusely from the wound called Islamic terrorism organized by none other than rogue Pakistani outfit-Inter Service Intelligence. Collaboration between ISI and Taliban are so real, even Bush had to call Gillani and give him ultimatum--control your outfit or pay the price for being one of the Taliban consort.  In last three decades, Pakistan has never been pushed so hard to the wall  as we all know the very country is the most fertile ground for global terrorism. Being in India, we  just happened to be at its unfortunate doorstep.  Millions of Soviet arms after the collapse of USSR have been dispersed among warring tribes of Afghanistan and North Eastern Provinces of Pakistan. Whether Taliban is an outcome of Islamic extremism for a planned game for necrotic business is between our rational and imaginative mind. But we all want to know what is the outcome of 10 Billion dollar US aid given to Pakistan by USA for eliminating terrorism? Instead of sign of relief, Swat valley is under the control of extremists despite heavy aerial bombing. How can you stop these Taliban when millions of them are produced in Pakistani Madrases on regular basis? Both America and Pakistan are doing nothing against mushrooms of terror incubators. Apparently , it is like burning a bush while spreading its seeds elsewhere so that multiple times more thickets can grow. And we call them to clean again by American tax payer's money! It is a vicious cycle of terrorism which can not be eliminated without eradication of its ideology of Khilafat, diluting the Taliban friendly Pakistani officials and addressing the genuine grievances of  Muslims in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.

Let ask ourselves point blank-what SAARC has done to ameliorate bilateral relation between India and Pakistan? Between India and Bangladesh?

We will do a simple case study on India-Bangladesh relation.  Bangladesh is landlocked by India and upstream of all its major rivers are controlled by Indian territory.  Strategically, for food, for water and even for medicine, Bangladesh is heavily dependant on India. Expectation of strong succorance from India has snowballed into  a vulnerable relationship because Bangladesh does not have strategic asset to assert its interest on India. Take the case of Farrakka dam-India is supposed to supply a minimum of 34,000 cu secs during summer. Due to illegal extraction of water in UP & Bihar, the barrage is not receiving even 24,000 cu secs before it can even split the water for Bangladesh!

Now who would stop illegal extraction by UP farmers?  If Bangladeshi people think, Indian Government should clean it-it will be a total Utopian concept since such action against farmers in India is nearly impossible. Even Jyoti Basu badly wanted this action against illegal canals in Bihar in 1987-solely for West Bengal. But he  failed because Bihar and UP have more MP seats than West Bengal.

This single incident would tell you impractical nature of any treaty between India and Bangladesh since Bangladesh has no strategic control over India. We have never bothered to act in the best interest of Bangladesh after its birth because there is nothing to be forefeited from a fallout of bilateral relation. This is extremely unfortunate but hard truth that needs to be analyzed if we want any meaningful relation.

Many of Bangladeshi intellectuals have urged to raise the issue in UN for violating international river treaty by India .But most of them even do not understand that UN is another circus when it comes to take action against any super power since all the member countries are more interested to please the super powers for pocketing material benefit. Most of the UN members have no interest other than how their political elites would benefit by acceding to the desire of rich and powerful countries. Given the current status of India which has second highest economic growth and nearly all the world want to invest in its market, it is very unlikely that UN could take any resolution against India favoring Bangladesh.

Then what are the options left before Bangladesh to bring India to round table? Apparently none and exhaustion of tangible options works as the fastest catalyst for anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh. Existence of strong anti-India feelings  has been exploited by ISI to recruit local Bangladeshi Jihadis for subversive terror activities in India. Question that SAARC must address-given such a huge disparity of strategic balance, how India and Bangladesh can go forward? Lip service of India-Bangla friendship could serve no purpose unless a strategic balance in the relationship is restored. Creation of such  balance has never been discussed in SAARC.

Only option left to restore strategic balance is economic co-operation and creation of a free economic trade zone in SAARC countries. If Bangladesh workers and products have access to Indian market, Bangladesh economy would benefit from multitude of opportunities. At present, it is an arid destination for large FDI. But the moment such free zone would come to existence and the investors would sense that by setting up a factory in Bangaldesh their product can be marketed in India as well, prospect of FDI in Bangladesh would enhance by ten folds. India would benefit both politically and economically from free trade in South Asia. If Bangladesh becomes a lucrative investment destination for Indian capital, business lobby of India would protect the interest of Bangladesh in Indian politics to further their investment. This would restore some level of strategic balance for Bangladesh. At the same time, people of Bangladesh would grow their concern for Indian economy since their livelihood would depend on this integrated market. This would be propitious for India for eradicating terror outfits. In last two years, India Inc. invested more than 13 billions in North American market. It is therefore unfortunate, that despite Bangladesh being so close, India Inc could not be allured to Bangladesh for investment due to hostile anti-Indian sentiment. SAARC never addressed this issue-as the organization merely opted for a ceremonial existence.

Every modern theory in social science concludes the dissolution of nation states in future with the rise of information highway and transport facilities. Since in long run, neither India, nor Bangladesh nor Pakistan will exist as separate state and all of the countries in the world would merge into a single nation, sooner we would work towards this unification, better will be the future of our children. North Americans are merging through NAFTA--Europe through European union-but SAARC in last two decades failed miserably to gain any momentum towards meaningful unification. Blame game is easy to play-soul searching and analysis of the current situation is the name of the game we want  in SAARC. There is no doubt India has failed to give leadership to SAARC by its indifferent stoic attitude towards the neighbors. Being a large mass it never felt the need for such integration. On the other hand, political leadership of our neighbors, although felt very strongly for economic integration, weighed their bait more balanced towards anti-Indianism for securing winning political support. They have exploited the anti-Indian emotion for securing political future at the expense of ruining a robust economic growth that was very real. I sincerely believe there is nothing wrong in taking anti-India stance politically since India has not done justice to them, but extending that anti-Indian politics to prevent Indian capital flow is disastrous and counter productive  to their economy.

Idealism is always a set of ideals to look forward and not to leap backward.

[vinnomot] Invisible Government!! very interesting and save article for future!

Invisible Government

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is emerging as the world's first global
government. But it was elected by no-one, it operates in secrecy, and its
mandate is this: To undermine the constitutional rights of sovereign nations.
How could this happen? What can we do?

Starting tonight, the World Trade Organization (WTO) begins its Ministerial
Meeting in Seattle. Just created in 1994, it is now the principal rule-making
body of the global economy. 134 nation-states have ceded it powers that once
firmly resided within nations. The WTO is already among the most powerful,
secretive, and undemocratic bodies on Earth. Its authority extends deeply into
the internal political processes of sovereign countries, forcing them to alter
laws and priorities. It is fast becoming a bonafide global government for the
new millennium. WTO former Director-General Renato Ruggiero called it the "new
constitution for a single global economy." And a European trade minister said:
"It's not undemocratic, it's anti-democratic."

The central idea of the WTO is that free trade - actually the values and
interests of global corporations - should supersede all other values. Any
obstacles to global trade are viewed with suspicion. In practice, these
"obstacles" are the laws of nation-states that protect the environment, small
businesses, human rights, consumers, labor as well as national sovereignty and
democracy. The WTO views these as possible impediments to "free trade," and they
become subject to challenge within closed WTO tribunals. Unlike other global
bodies (including the UN), the WTO enjoys unique enforcement powers. Offending
countries must conform with WTO rules, or face harsh sanctions.

Secret tribunals

The WTO's judicial system ("Dispute Resolution Body") operates in secret: no
press, no public, no public interest organizations. Three bureaucrats (former
corporate or government trade officials, with no social or environmental
training) make profoundly important judgements affecting human health, jobs,
agriculture and food, and the environment. The only standards these invisible
judges apply concern consequences to the freedom of corporate trade. They have
never once ruled in favor of the environment.

It would be impossible to list the many dozens of cases they have heard (though
we can send you information about them; see number below). But, here are a few:

- The WTO ruled that the U.S. must rewrite parts of its Clean Air Act to permit
imports of less pure gasoline; the result may be more air pollution and lung
disease.

- The European Union was told it cannot ban imports of beef products (from the
U.S.) that had been treated with potentially cancer-causing hormones.

- Japan was told to lift its import ban on certain fruits that carry dangerous
invasive insects. Such products require heavy doses of harmful pesticides at the
border. The WTO ruled Japan must import the fruits, regardless.

- And, after a challenge by the U.S., Europe was told to stop favoring bananas
grown in the Caribbean by small independent farmers over Chiquita Bananas grown
by corporate, plantation-style, agriculture.

Do you begin to see a bias in this?

Chilling effects

Actually, the WTO achieves most of its purposes by a "chilling" effect. The mere
threats of actions have been sufficient to get most small nations to voluntarily
change their laws and legal structure to be "WTO compliant." For example,
Guatemala decided voluntarily to lift a ban on advertising by Gerber Infant
Formula that claimed it was healthier than breast milk. Canada removed its ban
on a suspected neurotoxin, MMT, under threat of a challenge (under a NAFTA rule
that's now proposed as a WTO rule). Thailand quit manufacturing its own low cost
AIDS drug after the U.S. threatened a WTO suit to help American drug companies.
(Thailand's AIDS victims can't afford to pay American drug prices. The U.S. is
also threatening South Africa.)

Here's what's most important: Whether challenges are brought by the U.S. against
a country, or by another country against the U.S., or by other countries against
each other, the composite effect is "cross-border deregulation" which ratchets-
down standards for safety, health and the environment everywhere. That is the
WTO's goal: Free trade for corporations, but severe controls upon nations and
citizens that try to protect the safety of their food, their jobs, small
businesses or Nature.

New expansions

In Seattle, the WTO will propose a new "Millennium Round" of negotiations. One
proposal for this round would make it nearly impossible for any government to
ban the import of genetically engineered foods. Another would permit global
corporations to enter "public sectors" like education, healthcare, public
broadcasting, water delivery. We might find Mitsubishi controlling American
schools, or Exxon running BBC. There's also a move to cut tariffs on wood
products, which would ravage the world's last pristine forests.

But the Godzilla of WTO plans is to revive some of the old, discredited
Multilateral Agreement on Investment. Those rules would impose restrictions on
every level of government; down to states, counties and cities. Foreign
companies would have to be given "national treatment," i.e., treated exactly as
if they were local companies. So, let's say your city now favors local or
minority owned businesses to build municipal buildings, roads, or to provide
school lunches. This would be illegal.

Let's say your state wanted to stop the cutting of forests, or fishing for
endangered species; a foreign company could sue, saying this deprives them of
profits that local companies had already enjoyed. Let's say your state requires
new investors to use "domestic content," or to hire local workers, or to not
send their profits back to Europe (but to reinvest some in the community). Such
local rules would be illegal.

It would also be impossible for any country to regulate rapid capital entry or
exit, leaving all countries vulnerable to currency speculators and financial
crashes. Neither would your country, state or city be able to "discriminate"
against countries with terrible human rights or environmental records, as was
done against South Africa during apartheid. If this law had existed back then,
South Africa would not have democratized. Nelson Mandela would still be in jail.

Winners & losers

There is an ideological rationale for free trade. It supposedly benefits all
segments of society. The homily goes like this: "A rising tide will lift all
boats." So far, however, it's only lifting yachts.

Following 20 years of the most rapid expansion ever of global trade, only a tiny
group at the top of the corporate pyramid has experienced significant benefits.
Gaps between rich and poor have been widening, even in the U.S. For example,
American CEOs are now paid, on average, 419 times more than line workers, and
the ratio is increasing. Median hourly wages for workers is down by 10% in the
last ten years. The top 20% of the U.S. population owns 84.6% of the country's
wealth. And the wealth of the world's 475 billionaires now equals the annual
incomes of more than 50% of the world population combined. Lifting all boats,
indeed.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Right now, hundreds of public interest groups are in Seattle to protest the WTO.
Most want the WTO to stop in its tracks: No Millennium Round. No expansion of
powers. A full public re-assessment of the WTO's performance till now. Many feel
the WTO can never be democratically reformed.

Meanwhile, there are many ways you can participate. Lots of information is

[vinnomot] Reply to Mr. Kajimel

Mr. Kajimel,

I am not surprised observing your attitude of complain and complain again and again as because I take it as your way of doing things . I will not stop my pen till the day I see the indi beasts and their concubine political elements back in Bangladesh are not dragging our country to make it a subservient and subjugative korod rajjya of Indi.

In 1971 we did not fight to go under the subjugation of the bestial neighbour indi. We sacrificed  ocean of blood to get a rightful and dignified status as a free and sovereign Bangladeshi. They way the bestial indi is killing our people day in and day out but there is no protest from the so-called sustainers of democracy and HR plus there are several hundred counts of injustices and coercion from the neighbour to us.

Mr. kajimel I think as a free citizen  I have a right to raise my voice against the atrocities and wrong doing of  Indi and the paa chata dalals back in Bangladesh.  At the same time ask my fellow citizens to explain h/her acts which in the minds of the  people are trecherous and against the very interest and existence of our country.

Why you  think that I have committed wrong in asking question to Dr. Yunus that why he  has to be facilitator to the mysterious close door meeting with the Indian Prince ?????  Grameen bank is not meant for those purpose ? Do you think that Bangladeshis should keep their eyes and ears closed like the Jibis and RAW agents ?  No friend you are wrong as still there are some people who definitely will raise their voice showing indignation as well as protest the heinous conspiracy of these stalwarts.

Why the Noble Laureate had to stammer and told the press that nothing could be divulged about the meeting which is forbidden ????  Why didn't he have had the courage to say about the proceeding of the meeting. This shivering act of the sentinel against poverty worldwide has arosed suspicion amongst the people.
Day before he was explaining in details what the Indian Prince talked praising his (Yunus's) great work and wished hire the "Mogoj"(brain of Micro credit) for indi.

Is it is crime to raise eye brows at such myterious acts of the so-called SAINTS ???????  I think it is not.

Mr. Kajimel I am not spreading hatred rather the BAL gunadhar like Anu ,Shafique and Arif and some others who are exposing their real birth status by posting indecent, obnoxious, stupid and crazy posting time and again aiming at some of the contributors.

Mr. kajimel may be a month back I drew attention of your and some other complaining contributors about these obnoxious postings mentioned above but there was no response from any of of you. So, what should I draw the hypothesis that you condon the insanity, insularity and obscenity of BAL activist but brave enough to protest my posting which is aimed at awaring the people about the  "conspiracy "  and try to make the Bangladeshis to be vigilant about the incoming onslaught of the bestial neighbour through it's paid agents in Bangladesh.

Mr. Kajimel before weighing others in your Nikti please ensure that the said Nikti is honest and gives the right value judgment without having party biasness.

Finally I would like to say that we all must have the courage to spell out a Spade a Spade and judge others from the point of impartiality you are  looking for  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[vinnomot] FW: [notun_bangladesh] AT LAST DR. YUNUS IS IN THE LIST OF......

Yes, Mr. Alamgir, you have the right to carry your pen as long as you want and it will be seen as contribution to the nation as long as you maintain the gentlemanship in speaking. No where in the world, any objectionable words, are allowed, in public speaking. I am not teaching you. However, your nasty words are making all regular readers sick. You try to get your points through. And you can do it better, when you use, right words. If you try, you will see the results. Just be frank with me. Who you speak for? Not just for who you think your enemy. Definitely, for general public too. If you have garbages in your words, general public won't be able to eat that, because public is not used to eating garbage. And if someone does, would have upset stomach.

Similarly, if you write your articles, mentioning all salient points that you want to make, elaborating ins and outs, with a little more thought and little more hard work and patience, you don't have to use such objectionable words that you have become very used to using in your articles.

If you can change your habit, you will see, most people are giving you thanks rather than condoning.

Last words, all prophets, all big leaders, all best philosophers, criticized the sickness of the society, however, no one with bad language. You can say hard words, but not bad words. Please criticize, but nicely. Please remember, Shaytan walks with people having bad mouth, just wanting to derail the the effectiveness of the efforts that they want to put in with hard work.

Thanks,
KR

Dear Moderator,

[Mod Note: The difference is one is inspired by patriotism, and another is by shear narrow political motive]

Several times in the past I brought into your notice that Mr. Faruque Alamgir is by far the most intolerant author in your forum, and in other forums too. I just saw, you cautioned Mr. Shafique, for being intolerant and spreading the slurs. He is no way any near to the low level that Mr. Alamgir has.

Please tell me honestly, why Faruque Alamgir is allowed by you to spread the intolerance of highest degree, always and for ever.

What is the clue and what is the truth?

I do not believe that you both belong to the same group and rather than being impartial, keep spreading the politics of hates, radicalism, and defaming the others without any valid reasons, just because of the differences of opinions.

Please just read Mr. Faruque Alamgir's posting below, and you be the judge. I am sure you will find enough of what I am saying.

Sorry to bother you, but without impartiality, you may not succeed at the end, to be a successful moderator.

Thanks and have a great day.

Very Respectfully,

Kajimel Raisuddin

Subject: [notun_bangladesh] AT LAST DR. YUNUS IS IN THE LIST OF......

Friends

Conscious people were very apprehensive at the surprise visit of the "PRINCE" of Indi and the excuse that were shown were nothing but utter lie. This did not take much time to prove that his visit was to make finasl preparation for the enthroning of the rejected corrupt BAL'ist  leaders led by the great Netri.
The mysterious (not at all !!!!!!) meeting is nothing but follow up of two conspiratorial meetings with Hasi Bubu one in London and the other in Washington wherein another PRINCE of Bangladesh(who is not even a ward commissioner ???) attended in confidence ?????

The people of Bangladesh are dumb founded by observing the enrollment of the western aodred celebrity Dr. Yunus in the list of anti Bangladesh game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure he did not bring Horses as present then what he brought for them which could neither be spelled(as per Dr Yunus) nor shown in puiblic.

Can Dr. Yunus tell the nation what the Indian Paa Chata dalals (concubines of BAL) were doing in his office with the Indis Prince in his office close door ???

Grameen is not a political office and why it acted as facilitators/mediator between the forces active in demolishing the  rising Democracy as well as the entity of the sovereign Bangladesh ???????

Why the Noble Laurate stammered before the press and said that it was prohibited to divulge info about the secret meeting ???????
Has he lost his senses or is he indebted to Indi for his great Laurel he earned by riding on the poverty stricken teeming millions shoulder ????????

We demand from Dr. Yunus an explantion and the real proceeding of the conspiratorial meeting. We the citizens of Bangladesh have a right to ask such explantion from a fellow citizen.

I am sure patriotic people will agree that we will not ask anything from the great RAW agents Mutia r rohoman and other rohomans and the RAW secretariat in Bangladesh the CPD staffs. As they  all are branded and proven RAW activists in guise of researchers(????)

Fellow Bangladeshis please be on guard on the activities of these quislings(bibhishons) and at the same time the undiplomatics acts of the dare devil pinak the  leader of the gang of the anti bangladesh forum sitting inside Bangladesh.
The present CTG  can definitely declare the pinak "Person non grata" as per Geneva convention.

Fellow Bangladeshis please wake up and act like Bangladeshi and talk like Bangladeshi as you , me and we all are independent, souvereign.Forget differences bewteen us as we have to secure our nation from the onslaught of the notorious beasts and thy concubines.
