[vinnomot] "To compromise" or "Being compromised"

"To compromise" or "Being compromised"
A government bourne out of 1/11 should never hesitate to compromise as long as that is expected to benefit the general people. The most important lesson of 1/11 is "to compromise" - that should not be left out as a choice. However, government should never put the interest of general people in a position of being compromised.

It could be successfully argued that democracy is essentially an art of compromise - in its ideal form. However, our intelligentia, our press do not have enough gray materials to understand this basic premise. To them, when someone takes an uncompromising stand in national politics, they praise those stands to such an extend that the poor leaders forget the real purpose of politics which always should be the goodwill of the general people. Instead of giving a realistic feedback for their actions and policy stands, they create monsters out of gullible human being. A sad story of that trend is the creation of 1/11. However, that was just the final outcome, it started long back. Thats a long history, so, lets try to focus on today's topic.

In the current context, if government continue to make apparent concessions, is that a bad sign? Does that mean the excercise of last 18 months is all in vain? We don't think the answer to that is so straightforward. Making compromise is a good thing, we would rather argue. However, in doing so, government's main goal can't be compromised, the governments major policies can't be compromised. If Hasina or Khaleda needs some special treatment compared with other corruption accused, and if government accomodates those needs, that should not be seen as a sign of weakness. However, in doing so, if government deviates from its policy goal, then, these compromises will certainly be seen as a sign of weakness and there is a chance that the interest of general people will be compromised.

We are still talking in indirect terms. Lets make another effort to clarify.

With reference to a previous article that originated from Innovation Line titled "The raw deal that general people of Bangladesh is
getting
", one could say the recent developments with regards to certain political leaders' accomodation is the direct result of activating one important segment of the power-brokers in Bangladesh (read: bureacracy) who were so far out of focus of the people's attention. They became consious that peoples' wrath might target them eventually! The cabinet secretaries (past or present) have access to the nerve of the govt. machinery and they are afraid the focus may turn into something more intense. So, things have started to move.

Off course, this is just a hypothesis. But if this is true, then what? Is the government compromising or is the government being compromised?

The politicians of the past and their co-conspirators would like you to believe that government is being compromised, things are going in the wrong direction, etc etc.

However, we would ask you to hold your judgement. Check for yourself. Go to a government office where you may have something to do. Almost all the offices have citizen's charter by now. Consult the relevant charter and set a realistic expectation about what kind of service delivery you should expect from the officers concerned. Also, make sure that you know what to do if something does not go as per your expectation (e.g. the charter should say something about remedial measure if you do not get your promised service). Try to experience as many services as possible as soon as possible from the government.

If majority of your experiences are bad and if nothing happens when you have to complain, and if, this is the same story with most of the citizens of the country with most of secretariat, then you have to conclude that bureacracy is making deals with the corrupt politicians. And the fate of general people is being compromised. If a trend becomes clear, we forecast that there will be a time when each of the living cabinet secretaries will have to face a similar fate of the top politicians. And that will happen soon, not 10 years, but much earlier. You can put money on this forecast.

However, if majority of your experiences are good, if things are improving - that will mean that Dr. Fakhruddin's strategy is working. What is the strategy? You have to read the above mentioned article for that. [The raw deal that general people of Bangladesh is
getting
] Also, the state should not be made a matter of laughing stock. If the paroles are for certain time-periods, those time limits should be honored.

Aren't you tired of these conspiracy theory type opinions? If you are, we fully sympathize with you. Because we are also tired of that. So, lets try to think differently, something positive that we always try to do.

If the government was really interested about solving the problems through dialogue and given the stance of the two big political parties (who says they can't think for themselves), then government would have arrange an dialogue between Khaleda and Hasina. Or at least let these two arrested leaders have a live video conference and try to come up with a common national goal. If they did that, then, we would have thought we, as a nation, have actually learned something important from 1/11. We say that because none of these might not have happened if these two ladies' could have a sane conversation between them during the end of 2006.

Are we talking about getting Hasina and Khaleda face-to-face conversation? Are we kidding? No, we are not. If those stupids of the traditional political parties do not have any gray materials in their head, then why not let these two talk out of the impasse. Lets see what kind of vision these two can create among themselves. But can they really talk, let alone making a conversation? One may ask. Thats an important question for which we don't know the answer.

Well, if they can't talk, then what the government should do? Then government should gather all the editors of the newspapers and the chiefs of news of all the tv channels and give them prime time tv slots to explain to the people of Bangladesh, why they always talk about, write about these two worthless persons who can't even have a conversation between them. The biggyo sompadok brindo should have a good explanation and they might show us a good way out.

Well, we are not being helpful here, you are thinking, right? I know. Ki aar kora.. lets give it another try.

The pshyche of the people has been broken in every aspect. The pride is not there, the peace is not there and even a good hearted compromise is being questioned. We spend many hours for blaming our father's generation. And we do that with a very good intention and we consider this as a service to our homeland. Surprising, isn't it?

But all is not in vain. Things are moving - in the right direction. People are having more voice. What is missing is a rudder. Overall, the national politics is still rudderless. People do not see anything promising yet, around which they can identify themselves. The leader is yet to show up.

The good news is exciting time is coming during next six months. A lot of elections! Hopefully, things will get better over time.

In the meantime, we would like to finish this article with expressing our gratitude to two person from our father's generation - these two person are like father to many of our generation. They are none other than Forhad Mozhar and Abdullah Abu Sayeed.

Both of you have touched many of our generation directly and indirectly. A big thank you to both of you. Both of you have the pulse of the youth, may be from different perspective. But thats ok, life enriches with variety.

We are just curious if the government arranged a conversation between these two personalities who have influenced the lives of many of the youths during last few decades, can they have sane conversation between them and help guide the nation to develop a way forward? Do you think they can do that? No?

If even they can't have a sane conversation, then why are we blaming Hasina or Khaleda! We really hope government taps into these two personality (and may be there are others) and let them have a marathon public conversation among them. If things goes in the right direction, if they can build a concensus among themselves, may be then, government can take their service as policy advisors who can guide the government in developing a final understanding with the political parties.

If you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others. If you have an ear to the columnists in regular traditional media, please forward it to them. If you have an ear to the journalists and news editors of the electronic media, discuss it with them. Hope they would look at the suggestions and give due diligence.

Thanks for your time,
Innovation Line

---------- Forwarded Message ----------

Dear friend,

Thank you. Your name has been added to the petition and your comments will be delivered to FOX.

Other media will be invited to cover the petition delivery. The more people have signed, the more likely they'll be to report on us. So can you invite a couple of your friends to sign?

Spreading the word is critical, but please only pass this message along to those who know you -- spam hurts our campaign.

Thanks for all you do.

Here's a sample message to send to your friends:

Subject: See this? FOX smears Obama

Hi,

FOX's smears against Obama are out of control--have you heard about them? I just signed a petition telling FOX that their use of racism and prejudice is not okay. Would be great if you signed too.

First, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confused "Obama" with "Osama" and then joked on the air about killing Obama. Next, a FOX anchor said a playful fist pound by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a "terrorist fist jab." (Seriously!) And then, FOX called Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama"--slang used to describe the unmarried mother of a man's child.

Nearly 100,000 folks have signed a petition that will be delivered to FOX. Can you sign too? The more names, the bigger the impact. Here's the link.

[vinnomot] HOLDING ONTO A BURNING COAL

HOLDING ONTO A BURNING COAL
Day by day, year by year, as we hurtle closer to the Final Day - Yawmul-Qiyamah, the conditions in the world continue to deteriorate, as per the predictions of Sayyidina Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Fitnahs are increasing at a frightening rate, evil is proliferating swiftly and dark, ominous clouds are enveloping the horizons. In such times, holding onto one's Imaan will become a tough ordeal - the equivalent of holding onto a burning coal - as it is described in the Hadith. The analogy of the burning coal appropriately captures the agony of the people of Imaan. The coal cannot be dropped for that would mean the forsaking of Imaan, yet holding onto it is no easy task, for it requires the maximum in patience, sacrifice and perseverance, just to hold on. May Allah make it easy for all Believers.
THICK VEIL OF SUSPICION
Besides the general fitnahs of immorality and vice that prevail, a thick veil of suspicion has been cast around Islam as an evil, extreme and destructive ideology. The sincere followers and servants of Islam, committed and faithful Muslims, are portrayed as the scourge of humanity. All kinds of disparaging epithets and labels are hurled at them. In many parts of the world, it goes far beyond labelling and calling names. They are considered fair game. Every means is considered legitimate against them. The all-pervading media is used as a dangerous tool against them. Every provocative headline, every damaging media report, serves to stoke up and fuel the raging inferno of Islamophobia. And the global Muslim community inevitably is the universal victim of this craze.
THE MAKKAN PERIOD
What is to be done in these trying times? The early history of Muslims at Makkah is a source of great consolation and inspiration for persecuted Muslims. The early Muslim community, living in the Makkan crucible, was relentlessly persecuted. But this only hardened their resolve to cling more firmly to their new found ideology - Islam - which was an unparalleled blessing after the miserable and dark days of Jahiliyyah. Nothing in the world was dearer to them than the blessing of this new faith, not even their own lives. The contemporary Muslim community has valuable lessons to learn from them in these difficult days. The guiding principle for the Makkan Muslims was Sabr at every step of the torment, for "Verily Allah is close to the patient ones." These are the times that call for patience and steadfastness. Allah Ta'ala shall bring relief in due course, as He had done for the Believers of Makkah, and other persecuted folk.
As was the charter of the Makkan believers, Muslims must work towards developing their personalities and morals, thereby acting as true ambassadors of noble Islamic values. Beautiful Islamic conduct and character must be displayed towards all of mankind.
THE WAY AHEAD
In the difficult days that prevail, the way ahead lies in turning to Allah Ta'ala for help and succour, through obedience, submission and resignation to His will. Allah never disappoints those who have hope in Him, never refuses those who ask of Him, never ignores those who quest for Him, never underpays those who work for Him, never deprives those who thank Him, never fails those who strive for Him, never allows those whose comfort is in His remembrance to be estranged from Him, never surrenders to others those who surrender to Him, never abandons those who depend on Him, and never forsakes those who trust and commit themselves to Him.
This is a time for increasing in righteous A'amaal and returning to basic Islamic teachings, because A'amaal alone shall determine our present and future destiny. Conditions are created by Allah Ta'ala, based on A'amaal. Part of the process is to shun all evil deeds, and to kick aside a corrupt lifestyle. Some of the powerful A'amaal that have always brought excellent results are Salaah, Dua, Sadaqah (charity), abundant Istighfaar and Salawaat (Durood).
Now is the time for transforming the home into a spiritual powerhouse, through: Tarbiyyah, inculcation of piety and values; Ta'leem, learning and teaching; Zikrullah; Islamic Aadaab, etiquette and Sunnah practices; and Ibaadah, by all members in the household.
May Allah be our Helper and the Protector of our greatest wealth - our priceless Imaan!

[vinnomot] Burka Vs Bikini

Burka Vs Bikini
- The Debauchery Of American Womanhood -

By Henry Makow, Ph.D.
9-18-02

On my wall, I have a picture of a Muslim woman shrouded in a burka. Beside it is a picture of an American beauty contestant, wearing nothing but a bikini. One woman is totally hidden from the public; the other is totally exposed. These two extremes say a great deal about the clash of so-called "civilizations."

The role of woman is at the heart of any culture. Apart from stealing Arab oil, the impending war in the Middle East is about stripping Arabs of their religion and culture, exchanging the burka for a bikini.

I am not an expert on the condition of Muslim women and I love feminine beauty too much to advocate the burka here. But I am defending some of the values that the burka represents for me. For me, the burka represents a woman's consecration to her husband and family. Only they see her. It affirms the privacy, exclusivity and importance of the domestic sphere.

The Muslim woman's focus is her home, the "nest" where her children are born and reared. She is the "home" maker, the taproot that sustains the spiritual life of the family, nurturing and training her children, providing refuge and support to her husband.

In contrast, the bikinied American beauty queen struts practically naked in front of millions on TV. A feminist, she belongs to herself. In practice, paradoxically, she is public property. She belongs to no one and everyone. She shops her body to the highest bidder. She is auctioning herself all of the time. In America, the cultural measure of a woman's value is her sex appeal. (As this asset depreciates quickly, she is neurotically obsessed with appearance and plagued by weight problems.)

As an adolescent, her role model is Britney Spears, a singer whose act approximates a strip tease. From Britney, she learns that she will be loved only if she gives sex. Thus, she learns to "hook up" rather than to demand patient courtship and true love. As a result, dozens of males know her before her husband does. She loses her innocence, which is a part of her charm. She becomes hardened and calculating. Unable to love, she is unfit to receive her husband's seed.

The feminine personality is founded on the emotional relationship between mother and baby. It is based on nurturing and self-sacrifice. Masculine nature is founded on the relationship between hunter and prey. It is based on aggression and reason.

Feminism teaches woman that feminine nature has resulted in "oppression" and that she should convert to male behavior instead. The result: a confused and aggressive woman with a large chip on her shoulder, unfit to become a wife or mother.

This, of course, is the goal of the social engineers at the NWO: undermine sexual identity and destroy the family, create social and personal dysfunction, and reduce population. (See http://www.inoohr.org/worldpopulationcontrolpromote.htm) In the "brave new world," women are not supposed to be nest makers, or progenitors of the race. They are meant to be neutered autonomous creatures that indulge in sex for physical pleasure, not for love or procreation.

At his press conference on Sunday, Donald Rumsfeld said that Iranian women and youth were restive under the rule of the Mullahs. He implied that the US would soon liberate them. To Britney Spears? To low-rise "see-my-thong" pants? To the mutual masturbation that passes for sexuality in America?

Parenthood is the pinnacle of human development. It is the stage when we finally graduate from self-indulgence and become God's surrogates: creating and nurturing new life. The New World Order does not want us to reach this level of maturity. Pornography is the replacement for marriage. We are to remain stunted: single, sex-starved and self-obsessed. We are not meant to have a permanent "private" life. We are to remain lonely and isolated, dependent on consumer products for our identity, in a state of perpetual courtship.

This is especially destructive for woman. Her sexual attraction is a function of her fertility. As fertility declines, so does her sex appeal. If a woman devotes her prime years to becoming "independent," she is not likely to find a permanent mate.

Her long-term personal fulfillment and happiness lies in making marriage and family her first priority. Feminism is another cruel New World Order hoax that has debauched American women and despoiled Western civilization. It has ruined millions of lives and represents a lethal threat to Islam.

I am not advocating the burka but rather some of the values that it represents, specifically a woman's consecration to her future husband and family, and the modesty and dignity this entails. The burka and the bikini represent two extremes. The answer lies somewhere in the middle.

Henry Makow, Ph.D. is the inventor of the board game "Scruples" and the author of "A Long Way to go for a Date." His articles on feminism and the New World Order are found at www.savethemales.ca

[vinnomot] Fight FOX on Facebook

---------- Forwarded Message ----------
Dear MoveOn member,

Great news! Since Friday, over a quarter-million people have signed our petition telling FOX to stop using racism, prejudice, and fear to smear Barack Obama. The energy is so high that we're forming a Facebook group to allow even more people to send a message to FOX. Can you join the group and then invite some friends? Here's the link:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=3874&id=13026-1682262-ygAlWhx&t=1

Thanks for all you do.

–Adam G., Peter, Anna, Justin, and the rest of the team

P.S. Here's the original email sent Friday:

"FOX must stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. We intend to hold FOX, its advertisers, and its personalities accountable for FOX's attempts to smear the Obamas."

Sign the petition

Dear MoveOn member,

Right now, FOX is trying to paint Barack Obama as foreign, un-American, suspicious, and scary. They're trying to send Americans the message that our country's first viable black candidate for President is not "one of us."

We've seen this before from FOX. They won't stop until it becomes too painful to continue—until the public calls them out and advertisers start getting worried.

Now is the time to draw a line in the sand by putting FOX on notice that their behavior won't be tolerated. Over 100,000 Americans have already expressed their outrage. Can you make that number even bigger by adding your name to this message?

"FOX must stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. We intend to hold FOX, its advertisers, and its personalities accountable for FOX's attempts to smear the Obamas."

Clicking here will sign the petition:

http://pol.moveon.org/stopthesmears/o.pl?id=13026-1682262-ygAlWhx&t=6

FOX's longtime pattern of smearing Obama and the black community is well documented.1 But the outrageous moments have increased in the last month.

First, a paid FOX commentator accidentally confused "Obama" with "Osama" and then joked on the air about killing Obama.2 Next, a FOX anchor said a playful fist bump by Barack and Michelle Obama could be a "terrorist fist jab."3 And then, FOX called Michelle Obama "Obama's baby mama"—slang for an unmarried mother of a man's child, and a clear attempt to associate the Obamas with negative stereotypes about black people.4

If you know others who'd find FOX's recent actions despicable, please ask them to sign the petition too. The more people who sign, the bigger our impact will be.

Our friends at ColorOfChange.org—an online advocacy group focused on the issues of importance to the black community—are leading this charge. They will deliver thousands of petition signatures as a group to FOX's headquarters (in front of other media cameras, so FOX feels more heat). Here's how they describe the situation:

After each of the incidents mentioned [above], FOX issued some form of weak apology. But what does it mean when you slap someone in the face, apologize the next day, then slap them again? It means the apology is meaningless.

Now is the time to call out FOX for these attacks and their fake apologies. The first stop is FOX. Next will be their advertisers and the FCC. If we don't push back now, we will see more of the same from now until November. Please join us to demand that FOX answer for its behavior:

Add your name to this important cause by clicking here—then tell your friends:

http://pol.moveon.org/stopthesmears/o.pl?id=13026-1682262-ygAlWhx&t=7

Thanks for all you do.
