Abuse of female student: Punishment of DU teacher demanded

Dhaka University students brought out a procession
on the campus yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to Dr
Kamal Uddin, a teacher of Psychology Department, for alleged
sexual harassment of a female student. Focus Bangla

DU Correspondent

A number of students of Dhaka University under the banner of general students staged a demonstration on the campus yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to a teacher for reportedly harassing one of his female students sexually.

But the students were chased by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists, while they were going to the Proctor's office to submit a memorandum demanding punishment of the teacher.

Being afraid of the attack by BCL activists, the students started running helter-skelter in the Arts Building, while the female students were seen crying for their safety.

Later, the group set fire to a banner 'New dormitory wanted to reduce residence problem' of another student group, Chhatra Mukti.

Sources said the guardians of the female student earlier submitted a written allegation against Dr Kamal Uddin, Associate Professor of Psychology Department, to the Vice-Chancellor office in this regard. But the university authority did not take any action in this connection, the sources added.

The VC office sources said a group of teachers were trying to hush up the incident though similar allegation was brought against him by another female student a few years ago.

[vinnomot] Obama ahead in superdelegates lead (# 275 against Clinton's 271 as of now)

Obama takes super-delegate lead

[The no. of superdelegates: Obama 275; Clinton 271]

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has overtaken his rival Hillary Clinton for the first time in endorsements from super-delegates.

Four super-delegates - party and elected officials - pledged to support Mr Obama, including two who previously supported Mrs Clinton.
Mr Obama also has a strong lead in delegates won in state primary and caucus votes.
The Democratic super-delegates look set to decide who wins the nomination.
Added to the nine who came out in support of Barack Obama on Friday, he now has 275 super-delegates to Mrs Clinton's 271.
'Likely nominee'
Mr Obama won a convincing victory in Tuesday's North Carolina primary; while Mrs Clinton narrowly won in Indiana.
Six more states hold primaries before the Democratic Party officially declares at its nominating convention in August who will take on presumptive Republican candidate John McCain.
The nearly 800 super-delegates automatically attend the Denver convention and can vote for whomever they choose.
Mrs Clinton held a massive lead in super-delegate support before the party's first primary in Iowa in January.
But a string of wins for Mr Obama has convinced many of them to come out in his favour.

Unity stressed
On Friday, former Democratic US presidential hopeful John Edwards said that Mr Obama is now the party's "likely presidential nominee".

But he stopped short of actually endorsing Mr Obama.

With fears mounting that the long, indecisive campaign may be fatally dividing the party, both candidates have been careful to say that they will work to unify Democrats before November's election.

"I want to go into the general election... with the party unified and ready to take on what I think is a wrong-headed vision of where the country should go," said Mr Obama from Bend, Oregon.

Although Mrs Clinton has said the nominating race is not over, she also said Democrats would come together against the Republicans no matter who wins.
"What I hear and what I see is all about how we're going to finish this nominating contest which we will do," she said at a New York fund-raiser.

"Then we will have a nominee, and we will have a unified democratic party, and we will stand together and we will defeat John McCain in November and go on to the White House."
Mrs Clinton is favoured to win the next primary in West Virginia on Tuesday. Then Oregon and Kentucky vote on 20 May.

[vinnomot] Re: How to Make Your Own “Sunita Paul”

Re: How to Make Your Own "Sunita Paul"

Caught completely unawares I find Farida Majid has added my name to
the recipe for a 'Sunita Paul' recently published on NFB. Having no
idea who this Sunita Paul is nor how I come into the picture I think
this offers me a nice opportunity to unabashedly plug my book 'The
India Doctrine' which is probably the reason why Farida Majid decided
to pick on me in the first place. So here goes –

"The India Doctrine
Edited by Barrister MBI Munshi
"An insightful and thought provoking book on the repeated attempts by
successive Indian governments to dominate the South Asian region
militarily, economically, politically and diplomatically. Seen from
the perspective of Bangladesh and exposing the betrayal by India the
author reveals shocking truths about the hidden Indian designs in the
subcontinent. The book also includes contributions from other renowned
authors from Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka."
Published by Bangladesh Research Forum, the book is available at
BOOKWORM, 'Twin Peaks' Complex, Old Airport, Tejgaon, Dhaka (near
Jahangir Gate). Tel – 9120387, Fax – 880-2-8828595, Email –
faquddus@bangla.net, zquddus@global-bd.net"

While the concept of the 'Sunita Paul' recipe seems quite tasteless it
nevertheless underlines the contradictions in the thinking of people
like Farida Majid. The idea of the recipe at a closer glance appears
to favour an antinationalist stance. I think the reader would agree
that the Sunita Paul recipe is the inverse of the Farida Masjid
cocktail. The recipe for this last concoction follows the sequence of
the 'Sunita Paul' but the flavoring is quite noxious and certainly not
to all tastes –

1. Pick some choice 'Sanskriti' and 'Antel' flavourings from 'The
Daily Star', 'Prothom Alo'. 'Janakantha' and 'ATN Bangla' and add a
good helping of various outbursts from Sheikh Hasina, Tofail Ahmed and
Surenjit SenGupta and according to taste a few 'trump cards' and
hartals to increase the spiciness of the cocktail.

2. Shake this concoction together thoroughly so as to help in the
distortion of the truth otherwise the trump cards and hartals may
stick in your throat making the drinker choke and rendered unconscious
within a very short period.

3. Now add a touch of saffron making sure the mixture turns quite
orange like a painted Sadhu and sprinkle some RSS and BJP polemics on
top for presentation.

4. In a large pot over high flame of propaganda pour plenty of Joi
Bangla-Jatir Pita-Bangabandho claptrap so as to ensure a high
alcoholic content i.e. 70% proof. Once this fermentation process is
complete throw in the orange concoction into the pot.

5. Stir in dollops of the following if you fear the Sanskrit antels
are somewhat lacking in them:

a) Anti-Islam slurs

b) A little AL thuggery and mob politics and a pro-Bakasalite agenda.

c) Anti-rightist, anti-religious and secular intolerant fascistic rantings.

d) Resuscitation of the murderous Mujib and Rakkhi Bahini including
all pro-Indian dalal terrorist groups described now under the all
inclusive and sentimental label of freedom fighter and giving support
to the 30% quota in government recruitments creating a mediocre,
corrupt and inefficient bureaucracy.

e) Opportunistic promotion of Sector Commanders further distorting the
history of the liberation war and clouding over the fact that all
killers of secular leftists in 1971 were not Razzakers but also
included Indian sponsored paramilitary forces (see The India Doctrine)

f) Irrationally calling for the trial of War Criminals but not
demanding that the post-independence killers belonging to the Mujib
and Rakkhi Bahini not be brought to trial.

g) For added affect every time you meet a foreigner you should
disparage the country through frequent references to its poverty,
corruption and terrorism even though many of these are no longer
relevant.

h) The Farida Majid cocktail additionally requires that justifications
be found for India's undermining of our sovereignty through transit
facilities and investments in our economy that is likely to destroy
our local industries and supply the Indian consumers at discount rates
with our mineral and hydro-carbon resources.

This should be served chilled or it could have an explosive reaction.
Choose a serving platter of a good brand of crockery such as Vonnomot,
Shadakalo and Drisitipat blogs and of course Mukto-Mona to serve the
cocktail. The common element in all these is that after having a taste
of this exotic cocktail you will suffer a prolonged period of verbal
diarrhea hence the name Farida Majid cocktail. For further help with
the preparation and serving of the dish please consult Farida Majid
who will gladly oblige.

Bon apëtite!

[vinnomot] TAKING BODY OF THE DECEASED TO NATIVE COUNTRY FOR BURIAL

TAKING BODY OF THE DECEASED TO NATIVE COUNTRY FOR BURIAL
Question
Respected, Honourable Mufti Sahib Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah!
When a man or woman dies in our community the body is taken to our native country following the bathing, shrouding and funeral prayers. A committee system has been established to undertake this, and this practice has been around for some time. However, some newly graduated Muslim scholars have started to oppose this practice. What is the correct position in this matter? Please answer in detail quoting the relevant texts so that one may readily act accordingly and also enjoin upon others to do so.
Answer
The instruction of Shariah is that, following the death of a Muslim male or female, the body should be bathed, shrouded and the funeral prayer offered according to the sunnah as soon as possible. It is stated in Maraaqil Falaah as follows:
i.e. when death becomes certain the bathing, shrouding and the burial should be hastened to respect the deceased as the instruction given in the Hadith is to hasten. It is improper that the body of a Muslim should be delayed.
It is Sunnah and preferable to bury the deceased in the burial ground of the place where the death occurred. It is Makrooh Tahrimi (severely reprehensible act) to transport the body to another town or country (without valid excuse). It is stated in Maraaqil Falaah as follows:
If there is no burial ground for Muslims at the place of death or other valid excuse, then in such circumstances it will be permissible to remove the body to the nearest burial ground where the body may be buried. It is stated in Maraaqil Falaah as follows:
There is a significant Muslim presence here in the United Kingdom and many Muslim organisations provide a service through which the bathing and shrouding of the deceased is easily performed. Local councils also provide a separate facility where Muslims may be buried in accordance with the requirements of Shariah, therefore the deceased should be buried in the burial ground reserved for Muslims in that very same town or city. If there is a delay in burial due to legal requirements with regards to the release of papers or there is a need for a post mortem. Then in such compelling circumstances there will be no sin.
There is a principle in Shariah that if one has to commit a sinful or severely reprehensible, act to undertake a permissible action, then even that permissible action, must also be refrained from. In view of this, whilst transporting a deceased person to another town or country, perpetration of the following many forbidden practices is seen to be in evidence. Consequently, this practice can only be declared to be forbidden and deserving abstention:
1. The burial of the deceased is often delayed for two - three and even more days, while the Shariah requires that the burial should take place as soon as is possible. This requirement is not fulfilled.
2. Delay in burial also results in the deceased developing an unpleasant odour and physical decay.
3. According to the Hanafi Math-hab, the funeral prayer must only be performed once; not two or three times. In transportation of the body, gives rise to the funeral prayer being offered several times.
4. Health regulations of both of the respective countries require the body to be injected with a certain matter and the dignity and respect deserved by the deceased when alive must also be upheld after death. This dignity is not upheld.
5. According to some reliable people information, the internal organs of the deceased are removed, and if this is correct, then this is a great injustice towards Muslim deceased, that his or her organs are be disposed of in this way.
6. The coffin is stored and carried like other luggage, which is a further show of disrespect.
7. Heavy costs are incurred and a lot of effort is exerted without a valid reason.
8. At the death of a husband, the wife is required to observe a period of waiting. Contrary to this, sometimes the wife also travels with the coffin which is not permissible.
All of the above factors are those that are obvious. There are also many other forbidden practices, which result from the transportation of the deceased. Therefore, this practice must be corrected. The Muslim scholars who oppose this practice do so correctly and are only fulfilling their duty. Therefore, one must adhere to what they say. There is also a full discussion regarding this issue in Ahsanul Fataawaa V4, and the proof presented by those who hold an opposing view has also been answered. It would be very beneficial to refer to that discussion.
And Allah Knows best

[vinnomot] WASSIYYAT OF A MOTHER TO HER DEPARTING DAUGHTER ON THE OCCASION OF HER NIKAH

WASSIYYAT OF A MOTHER TO HER DEPARTING DAUGHTER ON THE OCCASION OF HER NIKAH

Be contented with whatever you receive for this will give you peace

Be obedient to your husband and pay heed to whatever he says for this will bring you the Mercy of Allah

He must not see in you untidiness nor carelessness and remember that water has the best fragrance in the absence of perfume and Surmah adds the most beauty

Be prepared for him at meal times for the heat of hunger is inflammable

Be quiet when he is asleep for the disturbance of sleep infuriates

Safeguard his assets for which he will trust you

Do not disclose any of his secrets for if you do so he will not spare you when he retaliates

Dare not be joyous when he is worried, for this will be wrong on your part, and dare not display sadness when he is happy for this will breed hatred

And remember, My Blessed Daughter, that you will attain all this only if you give preference to his likes over yours and his desires above yours in all things you like and dislike

And, My Beloved Daughter, be mindful of your duties to Allah at all times

Give priority to the orders of Allah above all things for this will secure Jannat for you

And remember not to obey anyone if his orders be contrary to the demands of Allah
