বাকি থাকি ব্যাক্তিগত মনন - হলিউড, ইন্টার্নেটের দৌলতে মানুষের মৌলিকতা ক্রমসঃ ধরা পড়ছে সেই অর্থনৈতীক ধর্মাচরনের যুপকাষ্ঠে ...

আবার অন্যদিকে দেখলে বাজার অর্থনীতি (যেকোনও অর্থনীতির) বেদিতে ব্যাক্তি মনের একটা বড় জায়গা আছে - যাকে কর্পোরেট জগতে আমরা গালভরা নাম দিয়েছি - ইনোভেশন। একদিকে বাজারঅর্থনীতির কাছে সামন্ততান্ত্রীক সমর্পণ (আজকের ভারতের দিকে তাকিয়ে দেখুন) - অন্যদিকে ব্যাক্তিস্বাতন্ত্র এবং ইনোভেশনের ওপর দাঁড়িয়ে স্টক মার্কেটের চন্দ্রাভিযান ( গুগ্‌ল) - একে চুড়ান্ত ক্যাওস ছাড়া আর কি বলবো ...

অবিশ্যি ক্যাওস বোধকরি ভালো - তাতে সুন্দরের জন্ম হয় - নইলে সবই বোরিং ...

To: vinnomot@yahoogroups.com, mukto-mona@yahoogroups.com, banglarnari@yahoogroups.com, khabor@yahoogroups.com Cc: calcutta@yahoogroups.com, sahitya@yahoogroups.com, "Farid Ahmed" <farid300@gmail.com>, charbak_bd@yahoo.com, editor@satrong.org, editor@shodalap.com, "Rahul Guha" <rahul.guha@gmail.com>, "Manas Ray" <manaskray@yahoo.com> Date: Sunday, 26 October, 2008, 8:42 AM Full article http://www.vinnobasar.org/read.aspx?linkid=217 পলিটিক্স ইন ওয়েস্ট বেঙ্গল এবং মুক্তমোনা ফোরামের বেশকিছু বামপন্থী তথা কম্যুনিউস্ট সদস্যবৃন্দ এই ধারনা পোষন করেন-মার্ক্সবাদ বিনা শোষনমুক্ত  সমাজ প্রতিষ্ঠা সম্ভব নয়। তাদের আবেগঘন বক্তব্য -বস্তুবাদি মার্ক্সবাদী দর্শনের স্বরণ না নিলে, সমাজে শোষন হবে স্থিতিশীল। মার্ক্সবাদবিনা শোষন মুক্ত সমাজ তৈরী হবে কি করে? ডঃ অভিজিত রায় এদের একটা উত্তর দিয়েছেন। আমি দিচ্ছি আমার দৃষ্টিকোন থেকে।  অনেক ইতিহাস, দর্শন এবং সমাজবিজ্ঞান ভুলে গেলে এমন চিন্তা বক্ষে ধারণ করা যায়! এবং এই চোরাবালির পাঁকে ডুবে আছেন সব কম্যুনিউস্টরাই।   [১] মানব সভ্যতার উষালগ্ন থেকেই শোষন বিরোধিতার দর্শন এবং বিপ্লব আমরা দেখতে পাচ্ছি।   বস্তুত পৃথিবীর প্রায় প্রতিটা ধর্ম আন্দোলনই শোষনের বিরুদ্ধে 'মানবিক দর্শনের' উত্তরোন। ইহুদি, ইসলাম, খ্রীষ্ঠান   সব ধর্মেই আমরা দেখছি নবীরা শোষনের বিরুদ্ধে মানবতা প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে শুধু বাণী দিয়েই খান্ত হন নি। যুদ্ধও করেছেন।   ইসলাম কিন্ত প্রথমে দরিদ্র প্যাগানদের মধ্যেই জনপ্রিয় হয়-এবং ঠিক সেই কারনেই আমরা দেখতে পাই, কোরানের অনেক   আয়াতে 'ধন বৈষম্যের' বিরুদ্ধে বেশকিছু বক্তব্য আছে-জাকাতের ধারনাও সেখান থেকেই এসেছে। বৈভবপূর্ণ জীবনকে   ইসলামে ঘৃণা করা হয়েছে।  মহাভারত পড়ুন। সেখানেও কৃষ্ণ ঠিক  এক ই কথা বলছেন। যে লোক  প্রয়োজনের অতিরিক্ত ধন-সম্পদ আহরোন করে,তাকে সরাসরি চোর-ডাকাত বলা হয়েছে।  ইন্দ্রপ্রস্থে যুধিষ্ঠিরের রাজ্যাভিষেকের  সময়, বিদুর রাষ্ট্রনীতির যে শিক্ষা পান্ডবদের দেন-সেখানেও দেখবেন এক ই বাণী।  বিদুরের বক্তব্য ছিল মোটামুটি এই রকম  (আ) হে রাজন, অর্থনৈতিক বৈষম্য যে সমাজে বেশী-তা স্থিতিশীল নয়। গরীব এবং ধণীদের সম্পদের পার্থক্যেই সমাজে চোর ডাকাত   এবং অরাজকতরা সৃষ্টি হয় (আ) রাজার উচিত-ধনীকে বেশী এবং গরীবদের ওপর করের বোঝা লাঘব করে, সমাজ থেকে বৈষম্য দূর  করা।      [২] কিন্তু ইসলামের ১৪০০ বছরের ইতিহাসে বা হিন্দুধর্মের ২৫০০ বছরের ইতিহাসে আমরা কি কোন শোষনমুক্ত সমাজতান্ত্রিক সমাজ বা রাজত্ব দেখি?     বরং উলটোটাই সত্য। ধর্মগুলি আসলেই শোষনের হাতিয়ার হিসাবে কাজ করেছে। [৩] মার্ক্সবাদের ক্ষেত্রে আমরা কি দেখলাম। মার্ক্স [১] এবং [২] সম্মন্ধে অভিহিত ছিলেন। এবং তার বক্তব্য ছিল, শোষনমুক্ত এইসব সমাজতান্ত্রিক ধারনাগুলি নেহাত ই ভাববাদি বা আদর্শবাদি ধারণা। তাই এইসব দর্শন শ্রেনীহীন শোষনহীন সমাজ গড়তে ব্যার্থ হয়েছে। তিনি শোষনহীন সমাজতন্ত্রের ধারণাকে বস্তুবাদের ওপর দাঁড় করাতে চাইলেন।    কিন্তু সেটা করতে গিয়ে ঐতিহাসিক বস্তুবাদ বলে যে 'বস্তুবাদি' দর্শনটির আমদানি করলেন-তা আদপেই ছিল আরেক ধরনের আদর্শবাদ। ফলে যেসব দেশে  তথাকথিত মার্ক্সীয় বিপ্লব হয়েছে-সর্বত্রই শোষনের অবসান ত হয় ই নি-বরং গণতন্ত্রের অভাবে কম্যুনিউস্ট  বুরোক্রাটদের হাতে মানুষ আরো বেশী শোষিত হয়েছে। এবং গতশতাব্দীর বৃহত্তম গণহত্যাগুলির ৮০% ই কম্যুনিউস্টদেশে সংগঠিত হয়েছে। [৪] তাহলে ব্যার্থতার ইতিহাস থেকে ইহা পরিষ্কার, হিন্দুধর্ম, ইসলাম বা মার্ক্সবাদ কেহই শোষনমুক্ত সমাজ প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে পারে নি। বরং 'এনলাইটমেন্ট' বা'শাশ্বত সত্যের' নামে আরো নতুন ধরনের শোষনের জন্ম দিয়েছে। তাতে অবশ্য কিছু যায় আসে     না। হিন্দুত্ববাদি, ইসলামিস্ট এবং মার্ক্সিস্টরা সবাই তাদের মত ও পথ শ্রেষ্ঠ এই স্বপ্নেই বিভোর। তা আজও সত্য।   কোন পণ্ডিত ইসলামিস্ট বা হিন্দুত্ববাদিকে জিজ্ঞেস করুন-মার্ক্স সম্মন্ধে উনারা কি ভাবেন? সবার কাছ থেকে এক ই উত্তর পাবেন। ওই সব সাম্যবাদের ধারনা তাদের তাদের ধর্মেই আছে।  কথাটা খুব মিথ্যাও না! [৫] তাহলে ভুলটা কোথায়? তার আগেও প্রশ্ন করি শোষন মানে কি?   যদি স্যোসাল কনট্রাক্টগুলো মুক্ত থাকে-অর্থাৎ প্রতিটি মানুষ তার উৎপাদনশীলতার সাথে যেসব চুক্তিতে জড়িত, তা যদি তার ইচ্ছার ভিত্তিতে হয়ে থাকে-যা ধনতান্ত্রিক সমাজের মূল ভিত্তি-তাহলে শোষন কথাটার স্কোপ কোথায়? আসে কেন?  শোষনমুক্ত সমাজের রেফারেন্সটা কি?   আমি নিজের অভিজ্ঞতা থেকে তিন ধরনের শোষন দেখতে পাই ধনতান্ত্রিক সমাজে    অ) 'অজ্ঞানতা' বা অক্ষ্মতাহেতু শোষন বিরোধি আইনের রক্ষাকবচগুলি  কাজে না লাগানো    আ)  শোষন বিরোধি আইনের রক্ষাকবচগুলিকে রাষ্ট্রযন্ত্রের সহযোগিতায় বৃদ্ধাষ্ঠুঙ্গ দেখানো    ই)   শোষন বিরোধি নতুন আইন প্রনয়নে ব্যার্থতা   একটু বিশ্লেষন করলে দেখা যাবে-ব্যার্থতার আসল কারন-গণতন্ত্রের ব্যার্থতা বা সীমাবদ্ধতা। উদাহরণ দেওয়া যাক। আমেরিকার ক্যালিফোর্নিয়াতে নুন্যতম মাইনে ঘণ্টায় সাত ডলার ত্রিশ সেন্ট।  এর নীচে কাওকে মাইনে দেওয়া মারাত্মক অপরাধ। রাষ্ট্র কিন্তু এখানে শোষনের বিরুদ্ধে রক্ষাকবচ দিয়েছে। কিন্তু বাস্তবটা কি?  ক্যালিফোর্নিয়ার কৃষিক্ষেত্রে বে আইনি মেক্সিকান লেবারদের ঘন্টায় তিন থেকে চার ডলার   দেওয়া হয়। রক্ষাকবচ সত্ত্বেও শোষন অব্যাহত।  কারন মেক্সিকান লেবাররা এর বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিবাদ করতে অক্ষম। যেহেতু তারা নিজেরাই বে আইনি ভাবে আমেরিকাতে আছে। তাহলে শোষনমুক্ত করার জন্যে প্রথমে এদেরকে লিগ্যাল ইমিগ্রান্ট করার দরকার ছিল। কিন্তু রিপাবলিকান পার্টি করবে না। কারন এদের সমর্থকরা স্মল বিজনেস ওনার।  যারা এই শোষন সব থেকে বেশী করে থাকে। রিপাবলিকান চালিত রাষ্ট্র ও এদের বিরুদ্ধে ব্যাবস্থা নেবে না কারন তাহলে পার্টী ফান্ডে ধ্বস নামবে।  কিন্তু দীর্ঘদিন শোষনের এই স্থিতিশীলতা চলতে পারে না। লক্ষ্য করুন ইলিগ্যাল ইমিগ্রান্টরা পথে নেমেছে গত দুবছরে  মানুষের দাবি আদায়ের জন্য। এবং আজ নইলে কাল তাদের দাবি স্বীকৃত হবেই।  কিন্তু এরজন্যে কি কোন  মার্ক্সবাদি এনলাইটমেন্ট দরকার হচ্ছে? না ইসলাম, হিন্দুত্ব, খ্রীষ্ঠান ধর্মের গালভরা ধর্মীয় সমাজতন্ত্রের দরকার হচ্ছে? [৬] সেই জন্যে স্ট্রাকচারালিস্টরা এনলাইটমেন্ট বিরোধি। ফুকোর নিউহিস্টোরিসিজমে ইতিহাসের গতিকে একমাত্র স্থানীয়      অদূরবর্ত্তী অতীত ও বর্তমানের উপাদান দিয়েই ব্যাখ্যা করা হয়। ব্যাপারটা গণিতের দৃষ্টিতে খুব স্বাভাবিক। সমাজ যেহেতু ক্যাওটিক  সিস্টেম-একমাত্র খুব লোকালাইজড বা কম স্থান এবং কালের পরিসরেই ইতিহাসের ব্যাখ্যায় কার্য-কারণ সম্মন্ধ আনা যায়।    আমার কাছে অবশ্য নিউহিস্টরিসিজমও অতিসরলিকরন লাগে। কারন ভারতের বর্তমান রাজনীতি-হিন্দুধর্মের ৩০০০ বছরের ইতিহাস, ইসলাম, সোভিয়েতের ইতিহাস ইত্যাদি ব্যাতিরেকে বিশ্লেষন করা অসম্ভব-যা স্থান এবং কালে অনেক অনেক বিস্তৃত।    [৭] তাহলে ধর্ম, মার্ক্সবাদ, পোস্টমডার্নিস্ট-সবাই বাতিল। পড়ে রইল কি? শুন্য?  তাও না। সমাজে বিবর্তন ঘটছেই। জৈবিক বিবর্তনের চাহিদাতেই ঘটছে।  ভবিষ্যতের সমাজকে আরো সুরক্ষিত করার চাহিদাতেই ঘটছে। বিবর্তন বিজ্ঞানের আরো উন্নতি হলে, সমাজবিজ্ঞানও আরো ভাল ভাবে বোঝা যাবে।   তবে পোস্ট মর্ডানিজমের একটা ব্যাপার স্বীকার করা যাক। হিন্দুত্ব, ইসলাম, মার্ক্সবাদ ইত্যাদি এনলাইটমেন্ট নিয়ে লম্ফঝম্ফ- মানে সমাজকে পরিবর্তনের চেস্টা না করায় ভাল। ইতিহাস বলছে, তাতে শোষন কমে না, অনেক গুন বৃদ্ধি পায়। 'এনলাইটমেন্ট' আসলে শোষনের শতগুন শক্তিশালী হাতিয়ার হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।  সুতরাং গণতন্ত্রকে শক্তিশালী করার দিকেই লক্ষ্য দেওয়া উচিত। গণতন্ত্রকে শক্তিশালী এবং আরো কার্যকরী করার মধ্যে ই শোষনমুক্ত সমাজ আসবে। মনে রাখতে হবে গণতন্ত্রের বয়স মেরেকেটে এক শতাব্দিও না।  এবং গণতনন্ত্রে সাধারন নির্যাতিত মানুষের কন্ঠস্বর যত শোনা যাবে-সমাজতান্ত্রিক গণতন্ত্রের দিকে আমরা বিবর্তনের পথেই এগিয়ে যাব। হিন্দুত্ববাদ, ইসলাম, মার্ক্সবাদ দিয়ে সমাজ পরিবর্তনের চেষ্টা  -আসলেই গণতান্ত্রিক বিবর্তনের বাধাস্বরূপ। বরং এই সব দর্শনের যেসব মানবীয় দিক আছে,   তা নিয়ে চর্চা করতে বাধা নেই।

Have you ever wondered about the innocence of childhood? How beautiful things were when we were kids. Looking at world with hope, optimism and curiosity and not with cynicism. Making friends easily. Simplifying things. Life was not at all complicated. So often, I have met people reminiscing about that golden era amidst the quagmire of adult life. Well, I think it's never too late actually. We can't replicate those things. We can't go back to that period. But yes, we can always learn from that stage of life. We can always revisit that kindergarten atmosphere. We can still be simple, take great pleasures in small things of life, making friends easily. We can still trust people. The choice is ours.   Life is a thing to be lived fully. As it has been said "There are only two ways to live your life.   One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle." So one should always strive to fulfill one's capabilities. The High Court on Sunday asked the military-controlled interim administration to explain in four weeks why the notification issued on December 4, 2007 scrapping November 7 as a public holiday would not be declared illegal.
   The High Court bench of Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana and Justice M Rezaul Huq issued the rule after hearing a public interest writ petition filed by former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman challenging the validity of the government's notification scrapping November 7 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day' as a public holiday.
   Moving the petition, Mahmud's counsel Adilur Rahman Khan argued since 1976, the day had been observed as National Revolution and Solidarity Day and a national holiday to mark the November 7 soldiers and people's revolution which re-established the country's sovereignty on the day in 1975.
   Adilur said the country's sovereignty was jeopardised amid a political turmoil in a sequel to the August 15, 1975 coup which toppled the Sheikh Mujib government through the assassination of the first president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with all but two members of his family.
   'Sovereignty was restored on November 7, 1975 as some army personnel along with the people freed the country for the second time after the country's war of independence in 1971,' he said. 'The government with a mala fide intention illegally cancelled the day as a public holiday.'
   Adilur also informed the court the government had resumed August 15 as National Mourning Day and a public holiday on the High Court judgement delivered on July 27.
   In the July 27 verdict, the High Court bench of Justice MA Rashid and Justice M Ashfaqul Islam ruled that August 15 should be restored as National Mourning Day and a public holiday.
   The verdict declared illegal the cancellation of National Mourning Day, also a public holiday, on August 15 by the BNP-Jamaat alliance government.
   The July 27 verdict was also delivered after hearing a similar public interest litigation writ petition filed by three Supreme Court lawyers, the counsel said.
   Going to power 21 years after, the Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, on August 8, 1996 declared August 15 as National Mourning Day and a public holiday to pay respect to Sheikh Mujib and cancelled the public holiday on November 7, National Revolution and Solidarity Day, declared by the BNP government in 1976.
   August 15 had since then been observed at the state level and the national flag had been hoisted at half-mast both at home and in Bangladesh missions abroad.
   The BNP-Jamaat alliance government on August 3, 2002 cancelled the decision of the Awami League government. Immediately after assuming office in 2001, the BNP-Jamaat alliance government restored November 7 as a national holiday.
   On December 4, 2007, the interim government, at a meeting of the advisers chaired by the chief adviser, Fakhruddin Ahmed, announced the November 7 public holiday would be cancelled with effect from 2008.

The policy statement on the subject "CPP as to why supporting Kurd's Panel in the election of the Supreme Court Bar Association scheduled on 28th October, 2008" as issued by the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP) for the information of public and press is as under:-   Communist Party of Pakistan and Communist Lawyers Forum (CLF) jointly decided to support the Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and Hamid Khan Group Nominee's Ali Ahmad Kurd, Ayaz Swati, Saeed Akhtar Khan, Shaukat Pirzada, Zulfiqar Khalid Maluka and Sheikh Ahsan-ud-din in the Election of the Supreme Court Bar Association, scheduled on 28th of October, 2008.   This was categorically stated in a policy statement by the Central Chairman of CPP, Engineer Jameel Ahmad Malik here today.   He requested all and specially those lawyers who have socialist and communist ideology to kindly vote for Kurd's panel on 28th October polls.   Engineer Jameel said that Ali Ahmad Kurd and its panel fully believe in the restoration of all deposed judges including Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and termed November 3, 2007 action of than Military Dictator Musharraf as highly unconstitutional when 62 judges were sacked.   Kurd's panel fully believe in the speedy justice, supremacy of law and are voicing for independence of judiciary whereas the panel of Pakistan Peoples Party and Peoples Lawyers Forum led by M. Zafar are a team of those lawyers, who are highly against the restoration of the remaining deposed judges including CJP Iftikhar Muhamad Chaudhry and they are all pro- PCO Judges and against the independence of Judiciary and supremacy of law just due to fear of NRO and their vested interests.   The CPP Chairman said that the two panels of lawyers have very clear bifurcations this time. The one led by M. Zafar has full backing of the Federal Law Minister Farooq A. Naik, Attorney General of Pakistan Latif Khoosa and Senator Babar Awan and that of Kurd's panel is being vigorously supported by the Ex-President like Aitzaz Ahsan, Munir Malik, Hamid Khan and Justice ® Tariq Mahmood and other democrat's and progressive lawyers.   He said the fundamental difference between two panels is very clear and evident. The one led by Kurd's is for complete independence of judiciary whereas that led by M. Zafar has a support of President Zardari and Federal Government and is against the complete independence of judiciary and restoration of the remaining deposed judges including CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry due to fear of NRO and other vested interests.   Engineer Jameel said that CPP and CLF are supporting Kurd' panel on account of its clear agenda and manifesto whereas his rival pro-establishment panel of M. Zafar lacks such qualifications.   He vehemently said that a person like M. Zafar, who has backing of the Government and is against the independence of complete judiciary and is a candidate only for personal interest, can how, he is then sincere to the lawyers' community, if elected to the top slot of SC Bar Association.

Bangladeshi Embassy already knows who are Engineers and Intellectuals in USA.  Most of the people who work in the Embassy have " Yes Sir" attitude and no strong conviction or understanding how to capture good policy advisers and strategies to develop Bangladesh in various sectors.   I have personally tried to convince last three Govts to develop Bangladesh Pharmaceuticals sector and was implicitly disregarded or have ignorance from their part.  So we Bangladeshi good in seminars and talking but not taking things seriously,  all about show up with tie and microphone who is in the headlines.   So bottom line Bnagladesh embassy knows those people if they really want to get their help to develop this country new technologies and strategies.   Regards, M. New Delhi: In an embarrassing development for the Bhartiya Janata Party, pictures of a Sadhvi (Right Wing Hindu woman) – arrested for her role in the Malegaon blasts – are doing the rounds in Bhopal and Indore.

The photograph shows the Sadhvi Poornachetanand once known as Pragya Singh Thakur - with BJP leader and party president Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The photograph was taken at the condolence meeting of state education minister Laxman Gaur in February 2006, the year that she took sanyas (retreating to ascetic way of life).

Before becoming a Sadhvi, Pragya was an office bearer of the BJP's student wing and a member of Durga Vahini, women's wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. She is believed to be an acquaintance of Indore Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma and another firebrand sanyasi, BJP rebel Uma Bharti

Pragya's spiritual guru is senior VHP leader Swami Avdheshanangiri.

On Thursday, five people affiliated to the Hindu Jagran Manch – including the Sadhvi - were arrested in Indore and Surat by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad for their alleged involvement in the Malegaon and Modasa bomb blasts

Her links to the motorcycles used in the Malegaon bomb blasts is being probed. The registration and the chassis numbers of the bike were removed with chemicals. However, investigators have succeeded in retrieving these. Preliminary investigations have revealed that all five suspects played a peripheral role in the blasts of September 29.

Sadhvi's father Chandrapal Singh says he is confident that his daughter is not involved in the blast. He also says he won't object if his daughter is punished on being proved guilty. "If she has comitted the crime, then I will not be sad if she is punished," he said

terrorism even though its leadership feels that none of those detained has an active link with any Sangh Parivar organisation.

With reports of Indore-based Hindu Jagran Manch being connected with post-September 13 Delhi serial blasts appearing, BJP leadership did a quick check on the backgrounds and affiliations of those suspected to have had a hand in the attacks which took place in Muslim areas.

The development was discussed by BJP leaders, including L K Advani and Rajnath Singh and some others, at Parliament House on Friday where it was felt that the particular sadhvi — Pragya and two associates — were not connected with the Sangh. But the sadhvi's previous links with ABVP in the late 90's were definitely cause for discomfort.

The BJP leaders were left with little choice but to take the position that all acts of violence had to be condemned and if the role of the Manch was established, it would have to face the consequences. But there was clearly a sense of unease over the emergence of "Hindu terror" that gave BJP-baiters in Parliament a clear opportunity to have a go at the saffron party.

 

Why not recommend the use of POTA against the VHP-ABVP-RSS- Hindu Jagran Manch and all the other Hindu Mujahadeens ?

BHOPAL: When the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) picked up a sanyasin from a village near Surat in connection with the September blasts in Malegaon and Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur. (TOI Photo) Modasa, there were curious faces all around. The arrested sadhvi turned out to be Pragya Singh Thakur, a former resident of Gwalior and active ABVP leader till 1997. Pragya, now 38, was a member of the state ABVP executive council and worked with the organization in Ujjain and Indore. According to her father C P Singh Thakur, an ayurvedic doctor in Surat, she was a much-feared student leader in her college days in Madhya Pradesh. She would ride motorcycles and severely beat up roadside Romeos harassing girls. In 2001, the Singhs shifted to Surat. Pragya left ABVP after becoming a disciple of religious guru Avdeshanand Giri. She took sanyas during the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad in 2006. "We have no connection with her since she left the organisation. All we know is that Pragya resides in an ashram in Gujarat," says ABVP national general secretary Vishnu Dutt Sharma. Pragya was a fiery orator, says Sharma. But he finds it hard to believe that she could be connected to the blasts. "The Pragya we knew could not have gone that far," he said. According to the police, Pragya had established an organisation called Jai Vande Mataram Jan Kalyan Samiti in 2002. She had taken the name Purnachetanand Giri after taking sanyas. The bike used in Malegaon was in Pragya Singh's name and efforts had been made to hide its ownership, police sources said. For instance, its registration number was bogus. But after a detailed investigation, the police found out about the ownership. Pragya is also known to Bharatiya Janshakti Party supremo Uma Bharati. On Saturday, Bharati said, "She has been attached to both ABVP and Avdeshanand Giri. I do not believe any person who is attached to both ABVP and a religious guru like Avdeshanand Giri could be involved in blasts. I am certain this will become another Dara Singh case. Dara was a staunch Hindutva activist but he did not kill Graham Staines and his children. It was later proved that he was not involved."

TOI had reported their detention in its Friday edition. Maharashtra' s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Friday produced them before a Nashik court which remanded them to police custody till November 3. The three have been charged with murder, attempt to murder, unlawful assembly under the IPC and Section 16 (punishment for terror acts) and Section 18 (punishment for terror conspiracy) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, and several sections of the Explosives Act.

The woman has been identified as Pragya Singh Thakur (38), a `sadhvi' (woman monk). According to ATS chief Hemant Karkare, the motorcycle in which the bomb was planted was traced to her.

The other two arrested, Shamlal Bhavar Sahu (42) and Shivnarayan Singh (36), have been accused of plotting as well as planting the bomb at Bhikku Chowk in central Malegaon, just outside the sealed office of the banned outfit, the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Two more suspects — Dilip Nehar and Dharmendra Bajrangi — have also been detained by the ATS.

Those arrested are reported to have given the names of their collaborators. An ATS team will soon go to MP to make more arrests.

``They (the suspects) were driven by their desire to retaliate against `jihadi' terrorism and to avenge the killings of Hindus,'' said a source in intelligence. Security agencies are alarmed by the clear evidence of the beginning of radicalisation of the majority community. This, they say, is the first instance of reverse terrorism resulting in killing.

According to sources, Thakur, a resident of Gwalior, was a popular leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP, till 1997. The ABVP, though, has denied the allegation. She quit the ABVP and took `sanyas' in January 2007 after becoming a disciple of religious guru Avdeshanand Giri. Thakur, who was in the state executive council of the ABVP, was known for her fiery speeches.

``In 2002, she had formed the Jai Vande Mataram Jan Kalyan Samiti. We have seized some pamphlets and are conducting investigations. She had also launched the Rashtriya Jagran Manch in Indore,'' Karkare said.

Shivnaryan is an electrical contractor in Indore while Sahu runs a cell-phone repairing shop in Tukogunj in Madhya Pradesh. He is also a small-time property broker. Shivnarayan attends RSS `shakhas' and has a shop in the Bengali Chauraha area.

According to the ATS, Thakur, Singh and Sahu are members of right-wing Hindu radical organisations. Karkare said that the motor bike used in Malegaon bomb blast belonged to Thakur who is now a sadhvi and regularly visited Surat to deliver ``religious lectures''. Thakur and Sahu had spoken to each other for 400 minutes on the cellphone over several days after the Malegaon blast, an ATS officer said.

Shivnarayan and Sahu have been termed by the police as ``mechanical and electronics experts''. They are suspected to have assembled the bombs. ``We want to know who taught them bomb making and whether there is any training camp for such destructive activities,' ' said an officer.

Sadhvi Purna Chetanand alias Pragya Singh Thakur, Shyam Bhavar Lal, and Shivnarayan Singh are the new faces of terror. The three have been arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad for their alleged involvement in the Malegaon blasts last month that left five people dead and several injured.

"Pragya had set up an organisation named Jai Vande Matram Jankalyan Samiti," Joint Commissioner of Police (ATS) Hemant Karkare said.

The police say Sadhvi Chetanand is a former office bearer of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's Durga Vahini, while Lal and Singh were affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

All three are allegedly linked to the Hindu Jagran Manch, an extremist group. Police say they traced the engine and chassis of the motorbike used in the blast to Sadhvi Chetanand.

Originally from Bhind in Madhya Pradesh, the Sadhvi shifted with her father to Surat six years ago. Her father, an Ayurvedic doctor, says his daughter, has been affiliated with the ABVP since her school days, but insists she is innocent.

"We oppose injustice and never do justice to anyone. Pragya is my brightest daughter," Dr Chandrapal Singh Thakur, father of Pragya, said.

Lal and Singh were educated in mechanical and electrical engineering streams.  Sources say a man named Ramnarayan Singh, the brother of Singh, is the master mind of the blasts.

The Hindu Jagran Manch has, however, denied being involved in the blasts. "The Hindu Jagran Manch has never been involved in any blasts and anti-national activities. This is all a conspiracy," Radhe Shyam Yadav, State coordinator, Hindu Jagran Manch, said.

But the big question is will there be a political backing for these agencies who are currently unravelling the fearful and upcoming face of saffron terror in India.
