[vinnomot] Acid victim housewife raped by felons: Social attitude need to be changed

ACID VICTIM RAPED
Social Attitude need to be changed

Musfique Prodhan

A young housewife of Chandina, Kumilla have reported been abducted by criminals and gang raped. These criminals were previously accused of  seriously injuring the alleged victim, after failing to force her into submission to their lust.

This is just not a isolated incidence of rape. According to the survey by "Odhikar" for a period of 7 years ( Jan 01 - Feb 2007), approaximately 6000 women were the victims of rape. There are enough reason to beleive that the actual number would be much higher than that, as the victims often refuse to report such crime in fear of social rejection, corruption/negligence by the police, time consuming judicial process, and mental torture during cross examination.*

The victim above had suffered the most common two pronged means of violence against women. Though there are very strong laws against Acid crime and Rape ( Acid Crime Control Act 2002 on 17 March 2002 and Suppression of Violence against Women and Children Act 2000 )

Under these laws, the convicted can be awarded from death penalty to life imprisonment along with hefty fines. And these laws have provissions to swift the judicial process, so justice could be served more effectively.

Despite the presence of such strong law, it seems that the number of rape victims in Bangladesh are on the rise.* And the news of conviction and sentencing of such crimes are rare.

This must be because of the weakness called "Bail System" in our judiciary. Exploiting of which,  the accused either absconds or intimidates the victim's family to withdraw the case, or commits murder, or seeks refuge under political influence,  to escape justice.  Success to these tactics, are the true reasons behind the crimes to rise to a hightide.

People accused of rape or any kind of violence against women shouldnot be eligible to receive bail, under any circumtances, until the verdict is announced.

Traditionaly, Bangladeshi males are very protective about their women. Along with dream of independance, and counter against genocide, the rape of hundreds and thousands of their women, had been a vital catalyst for the Bangladeshis to be engaged in armed guerilla warfare.

Surprisingly, after the war, Bangldesh's social attitude had been extremely unfavorable to the rape victims. Despite branding them as"Birangona"'s and urge to accept them socialy by Bongobondhu himself, the response was extremely nominal. The result was devastating.

Some of these Birangonas had comitted suicide, some of them took refuge in the brothels and most of them headed towards an unknown destination. Later no one cared and they had become an unknown entity to the nation.

Even in the 90s, crimes like rape didnot turned into an epidemic. As I recall,  during the rule of President Zia, one Dr. Iqbal was sentenced to death for murdering his wife. After such  sentence was carried out, the violence against women was significantly reduced. In another such incident during the rule of Gen Ershad,   Monir- a rich playboy was also sentenced to death for murdering his wife Rima.  Which also brought down the rate of violence against women as well.

Such convictions and sentencing carry out a clear message. People are reluctant to carry any crime when they fear for the concequences. So sentencing criminals to maximum penalty so have have found fruitfull to slow the crime rate against Women.

Unfortunately after a supposed "democraticaly" elected political Goverment took office in 1991, it seems that rate of violence against women have increased. Though the 2nd term rule of  BNP Govt (2001-2006) should be credited for introducing tougher laws in favor of the victims.

Some beleive that, drug and porno epidemic in Bangladesh are the root cause of sexual crimes. And since, it is easier to escape/delay the justice by taking shelter under political influence, criminals are more free to carry their evil.

Thankfully, despite their limitations, some NGO's have come forward to seek justice for crimes against women. But it is the society as a whole  must condemn the rapists and should change their hatefull attitude towards the rape victims.

Unfortunately, the social weakness is such that, a wife gets divorced for been a rape victim, a daughter/sister is treated with utmost shame and brutaly gets barred from leading a normal life, when she falls victim to rape.

To make the matter worse, the illiterate / half educated Mullah's often call to punish the rape victims (non complaince with Islamic teachings), the full educated turns a blind eye, the law enforcing agencies and lawyers try to cashin maxium financial benefits and the politicians seek political benefits, out of a rape victim.

Women makes up 49% of our total population. Women is a mother, a sister, a lover and a life partner. So in order to achieve a stable society. we must provide peace and protection to them, whenever needed. It was never a Bangladeshi tradition to be engaged into sexual violence against women. So we must first detect the evil foreign factors which is playing a key role for our changed attitude.

We must denounce any pathetic plight of the so called HR activists to spare the criminals from receiving maximum penalty, and carry out the death sentence to the guilty as described in the law. Also, anyone who is found advocating on behalf on such criminals, or found exploiting the rape victims, or tend to use wrong relegious teachings to punish the victim, should be treated as the criminal's accomplice. And should be awarded the same sentencing as the criminals.

People must not continue to harvest the same attitude towards a rape victim as they did in 1971.  A girl doesnot inspire a rape, rather such henious ideas are manufactured in the brain of a maniac. And there is NO PLACE for sexual maniacs in this world, let alone the society.
So the nation must stand behind such helpless victims in every aspect of life, and the media should play a key role to educate people so they help to revive the normal life of a rape victim.

[vinnomot] All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection

Competitive identity politics in Bangladesh has taken yet another ugly turn. In the process, it has chipped away, again, at Bangladesh's liberal, democratic foundations.

It's a valid question, and as a freelance writer, I have the right to raise it. Indeed, any other citizen could have asked the same. Freedom of expression is every Bangladesh's  fundamental right.Successive administrations of other political dispensations, instead of countering this regressive brand of politics, have adopted it. This is result of appeasement politics adopted by politicians for far too long. Any sane advice with even a hint of name/cause hijacked by a particular group to further itself gives a chance to these hooligans to portray themselves as the only champions for that particular reason to cash in on a particular votebank. You can find ample examples of these in every nook & corner of the country. Only if media in particular & public in general stops highlighting/responding to acts of them, such hooligans can be stopped in their tracks. Media should stop reporting such acts of hooliganism on a trial basis for a limited period & see if it has any impact on such miscreants. I feel devoid of free publicity, these elements will stop or at least think before indulging in such activities. Whether the media can bite this bullet is a million dollar question. Also it is important to note that no political leadership has the courage to take on these elements for fear of loosing a particular vote bank. And politicised the way it is, it is foolhardy to expect any thing from the law enforcers against such elements.

In their crude attempts to gain political capital by presenting themselves as protectors of nation's legacy, political parties in Bangladesh are impoverishing Bangladesh's liberal tradition at the last minute of destruction. But this is a dangerous move. It could have damaging consequences for not just journalists but all citizens. Freedom of expression, which includes the freedom of the press, is vital to a healthy democracy, which protects individual and collective rights.

Increasingly, in one way or another, we seem to be fighting a losing battle against those who have little regard or respect for the liberal values on which this nation was founded. All of us failed to match our dreams of perfection. So I rate us on the basis of our splendid failure to do the impossible.

Iran Is Not About Nuclear Weapons

Iran is about giant untapped oil fields. Iran is about giant untapped oil fields. Zionists want to control the world's oil supply. Israel will arrange a massive False Flag terror attack, such as a nuke in a city like Des Moines, or a missile attack on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. We will hit Iran with nukes, the world economy will collapse, and in a few years, the Zionists will "come to our rescue".

Their answer will be a one-world currency. It will not be a paper fiat one, but will instead be a rock-solid commodity-based version. And that currency will be based on gold and oil. As an added treat, we might very well have a one world government, with a Zionist mind-master at the helm.

[vinnomot] Pls. benefit from Abul ala Maududi ...!

MAULANA MAUDUDI ON SLAVERY

FACTS:

1. Slavery was banned by Colonial Powers in all Moslim lands under their influence or occupation.
2. None of the Moslims believe in Slavery or making people of a Defeated Country their Slaves though there are Verses in Qoraan that permit doing all that. It means, our Civilization considers those verses obsolete now.
3. Mollaas preach that Islam was the 1st Religion of the world that banned Slavery but that's not true.
4. Slavery was never banned in Islam but a lot Moslims believe it was and there's no Slavery allowed in Islam though history tells us that 2 of the 1st 4 Caliphs died of attacks by their own Slaves.
5. Since Mollaas do not think, any verses of Qoraan can ever be declared obsolete, some modern Mollaas have changed the meanings of those verses on Internet though their in translations of Qoraan in all languages they remain original.
6. MauDooDi didn't consider them obsolete and in his famous Six Volume 'tafseer', 'Tafhimol Qoran' (Urdu), by IDaara Tarjomaanol Qoran, Lahore, November, 1982, what he wrote is being reproduced here below.

The Captive Women:

1:340 means Vol 1 Pg 340. The summary and conclusion of discussion on War Captives, Vol 1 Pg 340:

"Even today, the government must distribute the women war captives among Muslim soldiers and the soldiers should 'use' them. This rule will apply to women regardless of whether they belong to the People of the Book, or any other religion".
(TafhimaT 2:292)
Slavery:

*  "A Slave-owner can sell his slave whenever and to whomever he pleases".
*  "'The act of kindness' means that the captives be turned Slaves and given into the ownership of (Moslim) individuals"
*  "A Bonded-woman given to any man by the rulers is as legal and binding a process as 'Nikah' (marriage)".
*  "A Captive of War will remain a Slave even if he or she embraces Islam".
*  "If a Slave tries to escape or create mischief, the master has the right to kill him/her".
*  "While the Shariah has limited the number of wives to four, it places NO LIMIT to the number of concubines a man can possess. He can have sexual relations with them freely.
There is no reason for any man to feel bad about having sex with these Concubines".
(Ref: Book: Tafhimul Quran 1:340 onwards, and 5 :14 onwards)

Aziz Huq <azizhuq@hotmail.com> wrote:
Yashwant does not understand why any one should consider Maududi a hero. Farida Majid considers him curse for our land. A large number of people all over the world have a different opinion on him.

Maulana Maududi is neither a hero nor a curse. Then what is his place in history?

At home, in my personal library I have six English translations of the Qur'an and two tafseers. One of each (a translation and a tafseer) is the work of Maulana Maududi. I dip into all of these to quench my thirst for knowledge and understanding. I find Maulana Maududi's understanding of the Divine Message very clear and focused. Is he the best or is he perfect? I do not think so. But without any doubt he is one of the greatest Islamic scholar and thinker of our times.

Should one make too much out of the fact that he was arrested by the Pakistani military and sentenced by their tribunal? How did the same military treat Sheikh Mujib?

Robindra Nath Tagore and Nazrul Islam are both Bengali poets loved and adored by millions of Bangalis. Yet one was jailed and the other was decorated with the highest literary award in the world. People who love poetry love both Tagoe and Nazrul.

Millions of Muslims read the translations of Maududi in Urdu, Bangla and English and benefit from his clear understanding of Islam. As I mentioned no man is perfect. As such the people who love Islam love Maulana Maududi for his scholarship as they also love other scholars and thinkers.

The curse of Moududi is the scourge on our land, on our faith and our lives. Please do all you can to battle against this curse and restore sanity and humanity to our people.

[Below is a note from a cyber-friend in an Indian forum where I had described the plight of Bangladesh in the hands of Jamaat. He echoes my sentiments]

============================================

It should be pointed out that Maududi's imprisonment and death sentence
was for his role in instigation sectarion riots in Pakistan.

The disturbances were of such magnitude that martial law had to be
imposed.

Maududi contributed greatly to rise of intolerance in Pakistan (and the
rest of the subcontinent as well).

The disturbanced were investigated by a panel of judges 'Punjab
Disturbances Court Of Inquiry', which after a detailed investigation
submitted a 384-page report in 1954. It is sometimes called the
Munir-Kayani report, after the two distinguished Justices who headed the
investigation. I will share some of the sections of the report. It is
a very important document for students of modern history, not just of
Pakistan but of the subcontinent as well.

Maududi cannot be considered to be a hero in a society that values
tolerance.

I cannot understand why the Bihar Anjuman, or any other Indian groups
would regard him as a hero.

Yashwant

[vinnomot] Turkish headscarf ruling seen as blow to basic rights

Freedom of choice must be uphold. Turkish headscarf ban ruling is a blow to basic human rights.
It is neither democracy nor secularism. The basic human rights are embedded in democracy.
True secularism is complete seperation of state and religion on either side.
The secular state should not intervene in the freedom choice and freedom to practice religion
in one's own way. The headscarf ban ruling is obnoxious. The "big bother" [Turkish Army]  is watching the  Turkish people, as always !!!!

I would not personally recommand my friends and family members wear head scarf
or hijab. But I suppoert the individual's right to wear head scarf or
hijab to express her freedom of choice and freedom of religion!

Turkish headscarf ruling seen as blow to basic rights

ANKARA: A decision by Turkey's top court to annul a government reform which lifted a ban on Muslim headscarves at universities is a blow to freedom of religion and other fundamental rights, Human Rights Watch said on Saturday.
Turkey's Constitutional Court overturned late on Thursday a reform which would have allowed students to wear the Muslim headscarf in universities. Analysts said the decision increased the chances that the AK Party would be closed down for alleged Islamist activities in a separate case at the same court.
"This decision means that women who choose to wear a headscarf in Turkey will be forced to choose between their religion and their education," Holly Cartner, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.
"This is a truly disappointing decision and does not bode well for the reform process," Cartner said.
The U.S.-based Human Rights Watch also criticised the ruling AK Party for failing to redraft Turkey's constitution entirely, which it said failed to protect human rights, despite launching a plan to do so after it was re-elected last year.
The secularist establishment, including army generals and judges, suspects the AK Party of harbouring a hidden Islamist agenda. The party denies the accusations.
