Al-Qaeda can better achieve its goal of weakening the US military and economy if Republican candidate Senator John McCain is elected as president, a message posted on the al-Hesbah website said on Monday.
"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier,'' the message said, according to an AP report.
"If al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests… this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America.''
Apparently, a frequent contributor to the al-Hesbah website, by the name of Muhammad Haafid posted the message, which was then translated by SITE Intelligence Group, a US-based monitoring service.
