Bangladesh National Election and a rancorous family feud!

By: Mohammad Gani (USA).

Keeping aside the ethics, morality and devotion, it should be all naturally sweet to share everything with wife though it is not always the truth, especially if and when you are sharing political opinion(s). Sharing political opinions, especially of Bangladesh politics is the only bone of contention between me and her! The other night, my (charming) wife for last 27 years lectured me against lecturing her on Bangladesh politics right on my eyes; then castigated me for being too harsh on her favorite characters Hasina and Khaleda. Understanding her moody blue's tune, I cowardly (as always) tried to convince her that I have no "personal" animosity/vendetta against either of these two wonderful ladies who are full of political wonders in our beloved wonderland except against their deliberate lies and unpredictably obstinate behaviors in fooling around with the fates of 150 millions of blue moons of Bangladesh for years. Going a little further, I also clearly reminded her of how gladly I accepted a woman's leadership at my own home for last 27 years! It didn't help palliating her contentions much instead let her go up with flames! "Your write up(s) have given me impressions otherwise Mister and you have been rude to both Khaleda and Hasina" she said.

Anyway, at the last leg of this casual drama, I lost the battle and kept my mouth shut (there is no other alternative either!). For the following several moments before falling into sleep, I started thinking and thinking to myself, "Why shouldn't I go back to Bangladesh and run from my constituency?" "Good idea, go for it" I heard my insight saying; I then told her of this adventure with care! "A bad dream" she said, "You are a lazy man who sleeps at work (and also at home!), and how could you run in the election?" "Sure I can, don't you see how many of our talent intellectuals here in US have been running back and forth to "our lady Hasina" to win the nominations?"

This road to candidacy/nomination process for Bangladesh national election is not an easy ride; you need truck loads of election money (An investment with many happy returns after winning the election!) and have to go through rigorous interviews process on your education, experience, purpose for running……… Well, I have no problem in overcoming those hurdles; especially I am a dedicated AL comrade since I was 14 years old and it could make my candidacy lot easier. My "nomination interview" with Lady Hasina should go well. I have "some education" and though I do not have any field experience, I could buy some "original training certificate" on leadership from Dhaka University those shall bridge the gap of my field experience. I also have some knowledge on our history of independence. So, here I am, facing the interview with our "JonoNetri Hasina" ( Portion only!).

SK. Hasina: What is your education?

Mohammad Gani: H.S.C "higher" 2nd division.

SK. Hasina: Why do you like to get nomination from Awami League?

Mohammad Gani: I firmly believe that AL is the only political party that fought for democracy, freedom, human rights and secularism for last 137 (One hundred thirty seven) years and only Awami League could eradicate corruptions, extortions, bribery (If there is any) from Bangladesh. AL has a plan to turn Bangladesh into Singapore!

Sk. Hasina: When did Bangladesh get liberated?

Mohammad Gani: Actually on 25 March 1971 but we had to clean our country off Pakistani enemies until 16 December 1971.

Sk. Hasina: How many people died during our liberation war?

Mohammad Gani: I do not know the exact figure but I knew altogether at least 5 people died during our 9 months liberation war. They (1) Father of the nation, "Bangabondhu" SK. Mujibur Rahman, (2) H.M. Kamruzzaman, (3) Janab Monsoor Ali, (4) Syed Nazrul Islam, (5) Sree Tajuddin Ahmed (My wife told me not include Siraj Sikdar). [Sk. Hasina looked very impressed with this response].

Sk. Hasina: Name few great living politicians in Bangladesh.

Mohammad Gani: Sk. Rehana, Dr. Taslima Nasreen, Mr. Joy Wjaed, Sk Hasina, Zillur Rahman, Sk. Selim, Motya Chowdhury.

Sk. Hasina: Name few of the collaborators and enemies of our freedom.

Mohammad Gani:  Dr. Yunus, Khaleda Zia, Tarique Zia, Koko, Nezami, Golam Azam.

[Note: My nomination gifts of Taka 3 crores to Haisna, say party donation are out of context]. I am feeling great now, the interview went very well! Chances are I shall pass.

     My Election Manifesto, Election 2008

1. Lowering the voting age to 14.

2. Changing the rules in NATIONAL elections so that the candidate in the last place becomes the elected official. (Example: Mohammad Gani).

3.  Replacing national currency "Taka" with "Rice". This would help fair redistribution of wealth and shall eliminate corruptions, extortion……… because Paying bribes with truck loads of rice would be difficult.

4. Raffling off the Minister's positions as a fundraising mechanism.

5. Dismiss all the high court judges.

6. Husbands must stay home for at least 2 days per week and must cook.

7. Demolish Dhaka University.

8. Banning "long" hot and humid summer.

9. Repealing the law of gravity.

10. AND FINALLY, sending-out of intelligence agents around the world to wipe Bangladesh off published maps so no one could invade our country.

My dream (nightmare) has just been over, I found my wife standing and awaiting passionately with a cup of coffee for me along our bed side. (Thanx to her). The reality show should now begin. Why does Bangladesh need a useless and frivolous election that shall cost millions of dollars and deliver nothing but same corruptions and more corruptions as it did during the long 37 years?  The entire populations as if now seem nothing but hypocrite. They know that inexorable Hasina and Khaleda shall not change or ready for change with any accountability and transparency. Could anyone give us a visionary, powerful and principled leader with Statesmanship what would truly love this country and its people? Obviously, I'll vote for him/her…..… but Haisna/Khaleda doesn't fit this bill. Their upcoming smear campaign shall only solidify the "angry-mob" and it shall turn everything against the interests of 150 million political victims. To see an election, Hasina and Khaleda must grow up now, at this moment and defend 150 millions people's interests over anything else. Their old comrades must be laid off, be asked to shut up, and to draft new bloods in their political streams. Otherwise, I foresee a long un-democratic government and rule in Bangladesh.

If you vote for Hasina or Khaleda, you should have your head examined. As a native Bangladeshi, I found Dr. Yunus or someone like him who could/shall start the proto type political process those would understand the exigent needs of this poor nation. Hasina/Khaleda's upcoming smear tactics would be a desperate, dishonest, misleading and despicable attempt to change the actual subject like rampant Corruptions, Bribery.... Hartal, Odorodh, economy, health care, education, and every other issue that matters to us. Their ultimate ambition is power grabbing, that's all!

Awami League (or Hasina) does not or should not own the copyright to our Independence or Patriotism and they have no right to try to make it seems like that although they do! I am very proud to be a native Bangladeshi, being an ordinary citizen, being part of   Bangladeshi political process, standing up for my motherland and doing my part! I shall just hope that someone among this poor nation would come up with the spirits and sensibility of patriotism, missions of our freedom and rally at the forefront of 150 million of people of Bangladesh. I wish and hope these irrational and dysfunctional leaders like Hasina and Khaleda would not succeed again that would have a great negative and damaging impact to this nation. Could someone get to Khaleda and Hasina and rationalize with them that their path has always been wrong and shall remain wrong unless they change their rudiments with different political culture? Their adulating followers obviously shall try to intimidate by all possible means they could that would again take us to a point of no return; but this poignant nation has no moment to take these risks and consequences any longer, it is that simple!
