GM should initiate making rechargeable battery operated vehicles without further delay. They have the technical know how to produce rechatgeable batteries to operate small to mid size vehicles in large scale.
Who's preventing them to do this ?
Are there any influence from the powerful oil lobby from Texas?
If GM and other U.S. auto manufacturers fail to realize the urgency of this rechargeable batery operated auto technology, they are living in a fools paradise and will gradulally be ousted by Japanese auto manufacturers even in the United States.
In the past Ford manufactured smaller Geo metro/Prizm models which runs more than 45 miles per gallon and later discontinued the popular models due to cheaper fuel cost. But now that fuel price is skyrocketing time has come for Ford to re-introduce Geo models without further delay. Fuel price will never return to lesser than $4.00 in near future even it can go more tham $5.00 per gallon permanently. OPEC members believe that ,current Oil price is right for their product and such price is long overdue and will never go back to less than $100. a barrel even it can remain $150.00 per barrel for long period of time before it adjusts price to the market condition.
Sooner U.S. auto manufacturer realizes the situatioj better for their own survival.
