On 11th May 2008 Haryana Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti and Bhartiya Krishak Samaj organised a mahapanchayat (rally) of farmers and labourers of Haryana state to protest the SEZ policy of Haryana Government, which was attended by thousands of people from across the state.
The meeting was convened by BKS Haryana president Mr. Mahavir Gulia, who while addressing the meeting said that the Reliance SEZ which is being forced upon the farmers of Gurgaon and Jhajjar is a big scam and a move to grab the fertile land of this area. The farmers of this area do not want this SEZ and the Government should take back this policy. A proposal to this effect was passed unanimously by lifting their hands by the farmers of Haryana who had come from all the districts.
Addressing the farmers, the national president of BKS, Dr Krishan Bir Chaudhary who had also flagged off the kisan yatra said that the SEZ policy is nothing but an organised way of grabbing the farmers land for real estate business by the industrialists and the Government. He also said that SEZ is completely anti-farmer and the Government is advocating for selling off this country. This move of the Government will not be tolerated by the people and BKS will fight this battle till its last breath. The Government will have to take the SEZ policy back or face the farmers he declared from the stage.
Organisations from across the state like Kisan Union, Shahid Bhagat Singh Morcha Yamunanagar, Vikas Parishad Ambala,Bhoomi Bachao Samiti, Sonepat, All India Krishak Mazdoor Sanghathan, Bhartiya Naujawan Sabha, Faridabad and many more were present at this ocassion to express their solidarity and support. A total of 58 organisations were present at this ocassion and it was decided that all these organisations would fight together under a single banner and include all other organisations for the cause of uprooting the SEZ's from Haryana.
Speaking at the occassion Ch Mahender Singh Tikait also expressed his solidarity and support to the movement.
