Professor Dr. Abu Ahmed Abdul Muhsi of the Mymensingh Agricultural University expired at the Bangladesh Medical Hospital, Dhaka today on March 10, 2008. He was 76 years old. His janaja will take place in Dhanmondi mosque after the Isha prayer tonight and then his dead body would be taken to family graveyard in Raynagar, Sylhet.
He was born in Sylhet in 1932, and after graduating from the Dhaka University with M. Sc and B. Sc joined its Biochemistry Dept in 1955. In I960 he came to USA and after completion of his PhD from the Texas A& M University in 1964, he returned to Bangladesh. He joined the newly established the East Pakistan Agricultural University, Mymensigh as a faculty. He served as Professor, Head, Dean, and President of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers Association. He was also elected as the President of the Bangladesh Botanical Society and President of the Bangladesh University Teachers Association. He retired in 1994. After his retirement, he has been involved with many educational institutions as an examiner, teacher and researcher. He participated in the Language Movement in 1952 and in the Sylhet Referendum in 1947. He left his daughter Dr. Ashana Nehrin, an architect (lives in Vancouver, Canada) and his son Captain Abu Fazle Mukim, a Marine Engineer (lives in Singapore, now in Dhaka).
A dua and milad mahfil will be held on March 15, Saturday in the afternoon at the Jamaica mosque, Jamaica, Queens, New York.
