NATORE, Mar 2: Failing to absorb the shock of losing small savings to a fake NGO, two depositors have died of heart failure and one committed suicide, reports UNB.
Abul Hossain of Bangalkhalsi and Baby Begum of Chhatarbhag village under Naldanga thana died of heart attack Saturday night. Jyosna Begum of Lakepara village committed suicide by hanging on Saturday, locals and police said.
Freedom Unnyan Sangstha, the NGO operated at Nasratpur in Sadar upzila, had collected small savings from the villagers with promise of lucrative return. Its chief Ishaque Ali suddenly disappeared Thursday night, leaving its office empty and taking away all deposited money, estimated at more than Tk one crore.
Angry depositors ransacked and set fire the NGO office Friday morning after the NGO management fled away with the money.
